"Yes mom, I promise I'll let you know when I'm all settled in okay?" I explain as I put my phone on speaker & begin to unpack. "I just can't believe my baby is all the way in Korea! Me and your father are so proud! Don't be letting none of those Asian boys talk to you crazy! You better tell-" I cut her off. "Mom I promise I'll be fine! I'll call you later okay?". Finally she hangs up, & and I let out a big sigh of relief. I was studying at a university in Korea to become a doctor. Were my parents happy about me flying halfway across the world to study in a foreign country by myself? No. Of course not. But after months & months of me begging & telling them that it would be beneficial for me, they finally agreed. My father was a doctor too, & my mom was a highschool teacher, they were proud of me.
After getting halfway through unpacking, I decide that I can finish tomorrow, & I need to take a shower. Stripping out of my clothes, I step into the shower in my dorm & let the hot water completely soak me. After showering, I get dressed in pajamas & lay down in bed. I began to overthink, "what if I'm not good enough?" "what if no one likes me?". I already knew that as being as being a black foreigner in Korea, it wasn't going to be easy. I mean yeah, I spoke pretty decent Korean, but what if I didn't make any friends? I sigh, & flip over on my side & eventually i fall asleep.
• NEXT MORNING •
"HIT YOU WITH THAT DU-" (stan blackpink pls) i quickly wake up & turn off the alarm on my phone. Today was my first day of class & a bitch was nervous. I lay back down & stare at the ceiling, contemplating my life choices (why is this actually me tho 💀) I let out the biggest sigh ever & drag myself out of bed & into the bathroom to brush my teeth & wash my face. After doing so, I sit at my desk to start my makeup up, I turn on the tv & the news is on. "Breaking news, the well known South Korean gang, Exo, are now the number one most dangerous gang in Seoul! A mans body was just recently found completely decapitated, & the members of Exo are suspects in this horrific crime, witnesses sa-"
I turn off my t.v & gasp. I was shocked. Exo? The t.v didn't show any pictures of them, but I could only imagine what they looked liked. I'm sure they were just some ugly, low life thugs. I try and forget about what I heard on the t.v & finish getting ready. My father had always told me to never get myself mixed up in that type of lifestyle. He had messed with gangs when he was younger, but it was nothing serious. I finish my makeup & then put on my outfit :

I leave my hair down, grab my bag, & then go to my first class. Of course, I got a few stares from people & I heard some whispering about me as I walked past but hey, you either drip or drown 🤷🏽♀️. I arrive to my class & greet the teacher. "Hello! I'm Normani." I say with a smile. My mother always taught me to make friends with all of my teachers, because they won't help you out if you're a complete ass to them. He greets me back & I take a seat in the front. A girl w green hair that was obviously dyed sits next to me. "Hi, I'm Nancy." She says smiling & puts her hand out for me to shake. I introduce myself to her & we become friends. Soon more students begin to arrive to class, & some even come up to me & greet me!
Maybe studying in Korea won't be so bad.
