The Calm

one

Hi, my name is Karina. Well, it isn't my name it's just a word that people say when they need something. But they don't usually need me. I'm somebody, who god didn't like.   It makes me feel depressed. And yes, I forgot to tell you that I have the Calm. I have two black dots on my neck which tell everyone that I can't speak, but sign. Although I can hear the sounds, sounds of sea, rain, music, my mum's voice...

I had a dream, a dream about being the most popular girl in the school when my mum came in the room

"Wake up, Kara! It is already half past nine, breakfast is on the table and I need to go. See you later, bye!" my mum said in hurry and kissed me on the cheek.

I went downstairs and slowly ate my breakfast not even noticing that my mum put raisins in the porridge. Oh, I hate those little disguising dry grapes. While I was eating my breakfast I was thinking what to do today. I 'm home-schooled so I have half of day free until my mum comes back from work. Should I put the TV on? Boring. Should I play a video-game? I've played hundred billion times. Watch a movie? Meh... I don't know!

Suddenly I got an idea. Should I go for a walk? My mum never said to me that I'm not allowed to even though I never asked. I haven't been outside alone, without my parents or somebody who will look after me. What if something will happen? I thought for a second and stepped out of the house.

It was very empty outside. No people on the streets. Everyone was inside their houses doing usual work without noticing how beautiful can be world. I looked around and saw huge dark-grey clouds above the sea. I went towards them along the road. Everything was very quiet. I could hear the sound of the sea, a bird shouting above me, my shoes stepping on the ground. When I came to the beach I realized that there is going to be a storm. One huge dark cloud was covering the sky above me. Beautiful. Nature is beautiful. 

Suddenly I heard a noise behind me like somebody has fell down. I turned around and I saw a woman's body lying on the floor without moving. I ran there as fast as I can and saw that she was dead. I was really afraid and I didn't know what to do because I've never seen a dead body in my life. I decided to go to police station and tell them. Our city wasn't big, more like a village so the police was just around the corner. It took me about a minute to get there. As  I ran to it I saw a policeman just outside the building.

"There is a dead person lying on the road,"I signed "do something with it!" I hoped that the policeman understands the sign-language.

He was staring at me very confused."Girl, I don't understand you, are you trying to say that somebody fell down?" he said trying to guess what did I showed him.

I didn't know how to talk to him, so I just grabbed his hand and started running to the place of where that woman was. He just followed me as if he was bored, very slowly. When we finally got there I was so scared because the woman that was lying there few minutes ago has disappeared. I didn't know what to think, so did policeman, he looked very confused. 

"Are you sure it was here?" he asked with fake smile on his face.

" I don't know how did she disappear" I signed but it didn't help. He didn't understand me. I felt so embarrassed that I just ran away with a thought in my mind that he must have thought that I'm just a stupid kid that tried to trick an adult. Sometimes children do that, just for fun, but it really wasn't funny for me. Because people quite often think that I'm tricking them and they just don't trust me. It feels so bad when nobody trusts you, because trust is something that friendship is build on, but I don't have any friends and I think I know why.....
