(Ew, this drawing-)
1933
It was a sultry summer night; Sammy and Henry had just enjoyed a romantic dinner for two in the backyard of the composer's house to celebrate their 3 year anniversary. They had prepared the food together and had even dressed up all fancy like they were eating out, something they weren't able to do together for obvious reasons.
Henry finished his glass of wine and smiled warmly at his partner sitting opposite of him; he was glad he finally got to spend some time together with Samuel. The music director had been fairly busy lately, spending most of his time at the studio and often working overtime. This slightly concerned Henry, but he didn't want to think about it right now; tonight was their night, nothing was going to take Sammy away from him now.
After the musician had finished his drink as well, he got up, taking the dirty plates.
"Stay right here darling, I'll be right back. I've got a small suprise for you." The animator smiled up at him.
"A suprise? Now I'm curious!"
Samuel laughed a bit.
"I figured you'd be, you've always been the curious type. Just wait a second." And with that he disappeared into the house. After a few minutes, Sammy returned, holding something behind his back. "Close your eyes darling~"
Henry did as he was told, impatiently shifting in his chair as a smile curled around his lips.
"Stop teasing me Sam!"
The music director chuckled, shaking his head.
"Have patience you! I just need to set up something.""Alright, you may look now!"
It had only taken Sammy a few moments to set up the record player, like he had often done at work, and as soon as it caught Henry's eye his smile widened even further.
"A record player of our own? You're the best Sam!"
And with that he got up and flung his arms around the taller man before pressing a gentle kiss to his lips.Samuel smiled down at the other man and his happiness.
"I'm glad you like it darling. I figured I'd bring it out here so we can have a little dance together, what do you say?" Henry nodded excitedly.
"I'd love that."The composer walked over to the record player and put on a slow song for them to dance to before making his way back to the animator. He took Henry's hand and gently placed one hand on the smaller man's hip, guiding him along the rythm of the music.
At first Henry had some trouble following the rythm, not being the musical type of person, and almost stumbled over Sammy's feet a few times. Luckily he had the music director himself to lead him, and after a few minutes the animator got the hang of it as well. He sighed and rested his head against Samuel's chest.
"This is nice Sam, thank you for all of this. Especially after you've been absent a lot because of work lately."At that the musician froze for a second, before slowly running a hand through the smaller man's hair.
"I know I've been pre-occupied with work, and I'm sorry about it. But I promise it'll be alright. Soon."Henry looked up at the taller man, smiling softly.
"You don't have to apologize, as long as you're fine everything is alright."Sammy gulped before nodding his head and faking a smile.
"Yes, exactly, everything is alright."
He looked away from the animator, fixating his gaze on the garden wall instead.
"Joey has just been acting a bit... eccentric lately, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about."At this Henry tilted his head a bit. "Joey acting strange...?"
However, soon after he shook his head; this was their moment, their night, and he wouldn't let work get in the way of it. Trying to forget about the situation, he stood on his tiptoes and leaned in towards Sammy.
"Or... we could talk about other things~"The musician was glad the subject was being wiped off the table, and a subtle blush spread across his face as he stared into the eyes of the small man in front of him, a smile forming on his lips.
"I'd like that~"All of a sudden, the music stopped playing, drawing the attention of Samuel. The music director let go of his partner and made his way to the device, where he was met with an unpleasant sight: the record player had begun to leak ink, the dark liquid having started to form puddles on the tiles below. A shiver was sent through Sammy's spine as he turned back to Henry.
"I suppose it's broken... I got it second-hand anyway."The animator looked at the scene in front of him with slight suprise.
"That's too bad... Well, at least it was fun while it lasted."
The small man looked at the music director standing dead still, gazing at the broken device in what seemed to be pure horror.
"Should we just make our way inside then?"Samuel slowly shook his head.
"Henry, you should go home."
The musician looked over at his partner; it wasn't safe for him to be around anymore, why didn't the ink stay inside the studio, why had it followed him home...?Henry's cheerful expression from before faded away in an instant.
"Sam? Did I do something wrong...?"Sammy shook his head, not being able to think straight any longer.
"Just... go. It's better that way."
If he couldn't keep himself safe from the ink, he would at least make sure Henry was.The animator's face shifted to a blank, emotionless expression.
"Alright, if that's how it is. I'll go. Have a good night."
And with that he paced out of the garden, onto the street.Samuel watched him leave, the man that meant the world to him and who he would always love. This was for the better, it was the only way to keep his loved one safe.
Love requires sacrifise.
