The next morning Juniper got up for school noticing Sam gone. She rushed downstairs asking her Aunt, "Where's Sam?"
Allison replied, "Quil Ateara came early this morning requesting the Sam come and talk with the Elders. He'll be back later this afternoon. You don't have to worry about him now, you and your brother have school."
Juniper let out a sigh of relief, smiling slightly, "Yes Aunt Allison."
Juniper got ready and Oliver drove the two of them to school. As usual, Oliver would skip up and talk to his friends while she walked by heading inside without sparing anyone a glance despite the many eyes watching her. Once she got to her locker, Leah Clearwater walked up to her, "Juniper, where's Sam? He usually gets to school before you and your brother right?"
Juniper placed her hand on the girl's shoulder, "Calm down, Leah. Sam was called to a meeting with the Elders this morning. No doubt to talk to him about what happened last month. Relax, he's gonna be fine."
Leah took a breath, nodding, "Thank you, I was worried he ran off again for good."
Juniper sighed, "Sam's not me, Leah. Besides, he loves you. What kind of guy dates a girl for almost two years and then dumps them with no explanation? That might happen in the Forks, but that doesn't happen here. Whatever happened to him, I can tell he's not going to do it again. Give him a couple more days to get his facilities in order and he'll be back as his kind and stoic self."
Leah smiled, hugging Juniper, "Thank you. Thank you so much."
Juniper tried not to be rude, but she grabbed Leah's arms and gently pushed the girl away from her, "I'm not really a hugger, Leah, but I'm glad I could help raise your spirits. Now if you'll excuse me, I like to be early for my classes." Juniper headed down the hallway and entered her first class with her two best friends, Poppy and Ginger.
Poppy smiled, seeing Juniper walk in, "Hey Junie!"
"Hey Pops. How was your beach birthday party?"
"Boring, I wish you could've made it."
Ginger agreed, "Yeah, why didn't you show?"
Juniper sat down in her seat, "I had to keep an eye on Sam. Make sure he didn't go running off again. Our family nearly fell apart while he was gone. I may not be the most responsible or reliable member of my family, but despite how dysfunctional it is, we need to stick together."
The half sisters nodded because they knew how important family was as well. The girls themselves were only eleven months apart. They shared the same mother, but two different fathers. Poppy was conceived when Patricia Veil had been plucked off the street and raped while waiting at a bus stop in the Forks to take her home to LaPush. The rapists were never caught, but Benjamin Veil knew that the baby growing in his wife's stomach was innocent and could not be faulted for the crimes of whoever her father was. Poppy has always been treated as a member of the family despite being conceived and born under undesirable circumstances. The girls, despite being half sisters, were as close as any siblings in the tribe.
Class began and the day moved slowly and finally it was lunchtime and Juniper took her usual place next to Jacob Black, "Hey you."
"Hey, you doing okay?"
Juniper eyed her only male friend, "What do you mean? I'm always okay."
"I mean about Sam."
The table suddenly got quiet as the other guys and Oliver listened in to her reply, "Sam went to talk to the Elders today which means he'll be back to his wonderful self by dinnertime."
