HOOK Your party has been investigating a necromancer for a short time he has been sighted nearby and recently the number of undead has been increasing steadily in addition there has been some evidence that the necromancer could be someone very close to you

BACKGROUNDS

NECROMANCER : There will be one defined necromancer either a cleric or a wizard or any other class that can use necrotic damage or raise the dead they must remain anonymous and their goal is to use the power of the party without alerting them to become a lich

PALADIN: Basically the whole party will try to find the necromancer wether it's in their midst or in the world but the paladin will be a fighter or cleric or something that is lawful good and will basically drive the under story while the necromancer tries to hide from and mislead them

SHIFTY PCS AND NPCS: This campaigns intrigue is based on making the npcs and the players never ever trust each other no one is out of the question everyone is a suspect to start with the dm has to make sure that it's a mystery and must keep it that way until the necromancer makes a mistake

FIRST LOCATION : The players are a group of adventurous men and women living in a little town in the suburbs of a large city in faerune it doesn't matter which city or where. Their days are spent trying to find the location of a necromancer and the source of his power. The town(scarbald)  is in uproar as the players are awakened by a furious knock at their door(they do have a house that they own) the town as they open the door is alive as the town guard of 2d 6 guards are fighting a mass of zombies and skeletons. There are 3d 4 skeletons and 2d6 zombies the guards are going to die if the players don't help but in the town square they will enter combat with the massed undead.

OVERWORLD: The over-world is pretty classic it's faerune there's lots of dungeons and abandoned castles and plenty of odd woods and hollows to fill with undead graveyards strange symbols and defunct rituals. Cults are all around but none of them have to do with this new necromancer it seems the rest of them don't like him because he finds magic incredibly easy able to raise large numbers of undead

DM NOTES Overall this is more about the mystery than the real campaign the real skull is involved in the cat and mouse involved with your players the necromancer can gain allies and even play meta games against the paladin the enemies in this campaign are really fear and distrust. Think of this like a game of mafia or maybe Salem if you have played those the team is trying to work together to find the necromancer but they can be working in secret with him as well.
