Chapter 1- Daydreaming
"Hurry up and hit the ball, Butler," Coach Stratford exclaimed angrily from the bleachers once again which scared almost the whole field.
Ring ring.
"Someone please bring out Coach Taylor, so Stratford could stop breathing down our necks," Jacob jokes and half the field that heard him, laughs.
Ring ring.
"Something funny?" Coach Stratford shouts and the baseball boys shake their head.
Ring ring!
"Butler, you better hit this one or I swear to god you're going to suffer at tonight's party. And I mean really suffer," Dennis exclaims and throws the ball at Kevin.
Ring ring!!
Kevin braces himself as the ball comes flying at him. He swings his bat and this time it connects! A loud sound comes off which surprised the boys, but they all start jumping and patting Kevin's head.
Finally!
Ring ring!!
"Oh my fucking Jesus, finally," Jake, the catcher, exclaims and breathes out deeply as he smacks Kevin's butt.
Ring ring!!!
"Finally, we're hitting those Butler," Coach Stratford says, putting his cap back on. "Now give me five more of those."
Ring ring!!!!
"Are you gonna get that?" A voice calls from behind and I shake my head until I realize who this voice belongs to.
Involuntarily, I turn myself around to face him. In front of me stands Travis Hill. The bad boy, troublemaker, someone whom I should always stay away from, dad's best friend's oldest son, and my crush for about ten years.
He raises his brow and points at the phone ringing in my hand. I shuffle around nervously, pulling my glasses up I pick up the phone and put it to my ear.
"Hello? Rae? Are you okay?" Dad calls out through the phone, but I don't respond because I'm staring at Travis. His curly hair falling on his forehead, his blue eyes looking into my grey ones, his backpack hung loose on his shoulder as he's slouching.
"Rae?" Dad yells out once again, catching my attention this time.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine dad," I shuffle with words while still eyeing Travis as he looks down at me with a smirk on his handsome face.
"You scared us for a second there. We thought that.... anyways, there is a small party at the Hill's tonight and we have to go. I called because your mom and I are going out with them, until we're back you could hang out at their place," dad explains and my eyes literally pop out of my sockets.
"What?" I exclaim, catching Travis's undivided attention to myself completely. "Uh- I mean... I mean what? Why?"
"Well he's a really close friend and it's his anniversary, so I thought that we should attend. But, if you don't want to come, we would totally understand. Anyways, we need to get going now so talk to you later Rae," he says and before I could retort, he hangs up.
I groan softly and look down at my phone in disbelief. I have to go to the Hills' house. Why?
I have been avoiding going to their house when Travis is there because I am pretty sure I can't control my face when he's around. It's going to turn red sooner than later.
"Everything okay?" Travis asks, wondering what the call was about.
"Uh- yeah," I mumble back. "It's great."
