"I just want a nap," I grumble as I lean against a locker. Gracie is switching out her books for classes today. Having a block schedule made things both easier and harder at the same time.
"You always wanna nap," she chuckles flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. She is my only friend here in Ridgemont High, both of us hiding way under the radar.
I shrug as casually as I can manage fighting the urge to whimper in pain from my bruised up ribs.
Gracie just rolls her eyes at me as she always does and shuts her locker. She hooked her arm with mine and we started walking towards class. I had AP History and she had Econ right now but they were only a few doors down from each other.
"You gonna be okay?" She asked as we neared her door.
"I'm fine," I said putting on a smile as I always did. "Just tired."
"Yeah I don't believe that for a second." I laughed at her shaking my head as she turned on her heel and entered her class.
I kept walking heading for my classroom now. I dodged people as I moved in the halls keeping my head down as I did so.
I took my seat in the back left corner of the room. Ms. Mattias had assigned seating and this is where I was put, away from Victoria Jenstin, the only person outside of Gracie to even know I existed. That doesn't mean we were friends though- the exact opposite actually, we hated each other.
I kept my head down as the class began, Ms. Mattias started teaching, giving us a lecture about the Civil War and the importance of the American wars that follow. She always posted the notes at the end of the day so I would be okay if I missed it.
I found myself slowly putting my head down as her highly annoying voice continued to ramble on and on and on.
The sound of the door opening brought me back to reality. I glanced up as two people walked into the room; a lady from the front office and someone new. I ignored it and turned my head back to the notes on my paper- well more like my doodles and sketches on my paper.
One more year. Then it's off to art school.
"Okay everyone it looks like we have a new student," Ms. Mattias said loudly. "You can have a seat next to Kinley."
Whispers broke out across the room, "Who's Kinley? Is she new too?"
"Kinley raise your hand," Ms. Mattias said finally. I slowly raised my hand as a few heads turn towards me.
I blush at all the eyes and quickly duck my head again as the new student came towards me. I kept my head down avoiding the new guy as he sat next tome
I turned back to my paper as the lecture continued on again. I started drawing again just distracting myself from what was happening.
"Hey can you hand this to him?" A voice to my left asked. I looked over and saw Malenia offering me a piece of paper.
I took the paper and opened it to see what it was, 'Hey you're pretty cute, I'm Mal hit me up some time ;)'. Her number was written on the bottom.
I rolled my eyes and handed it over to him, his fingers brushing mine as he took the paper.
He smirked at the paper then looked over at Mal with bright blue eyes. "No thanks," he said before crumpling the paper.
A strangle laugh fell from my lip before I could cover my mouth. "What are you laughing at Little Miss Nobody?" Mal snapped at me.
I shook my head biting my lip till smiling. "She's laughing at you," the new guy said leaning across the desk. "My guess is because you don't get rejected very often."
Mal stumbled over her own words before huffing and turning back to the lecture. I covered my mouth and laid my head on the desk for a second laughing before sitting back up. I looked back over at the new guy and suddenly-
"Can you answer the question Kinley?" Ms. Mattias asked.
"No ma'am," I stumbled out.
"Then maybe you should stop talking and start writing." I nodded and looked back down at my paper. There were no notes on my paper just some sketches- sketches of things that I should never be drawing again.
I sighed and crumbled up the paper, tossing it in my bag to throw away later- maybe burn if i felt up to it.
After the bell i hurried to my next class hoping to avoid everyone and everything as I normally did. I just wanted to make it to lunch where I could see Gracie.
