TWO YOUNG PEOPLE sat by each other on the cafe. The young boy in the turban was gulping a big cup of coffee while the young woman in hijab was sipping hot chocolate in between their talks. His name was Daler Thakur and her name was Inaam Khan. They have been best friends for as long as they could remember and by God's grace, they found themselves in the same office everyday.
"Won't your Abba be angry that you are out in this hour of night?" Daler asked sarcastically.
"Firstly, it's just eight. Secondly Abba is out of the country, he is in Pakistan to visit Nana." Inaam replied.
"You forgot the last time? He called you fifty times cause you were late. It was 6:30. Our office hour ends at 5. I mean who does that?"
"He is possessive. All Asian parents are strict over their children. Moreover I am a girl."
"Stereotypes!"
"Listen to me, Daler," Inaam looked straight into his eyes.
"I am listening." Daler nodded as he completed the coffee and slide his phone screen.
"Abba is planning to marry me off," Inaam said in a lowly voice.
Daler nearly choked on his drink. He put down the cup and his phone. His head was spinning. What the fuck?
"Are you kidding me?"
"No."
"How can he?" Daler yelled.
"How can't he? He is my father after all."
"You're an adult Inaam!"
"That is why he is thinking about marriage. Abba has thought of our consent. He is never dominant."
"Woah!" He slammed his angry hand on the table, earning a few glances. "So you have consent in this matter?"
"Yes, I do." She looked away, hiding the moisture in her eyes. "Why shan't I? I don't have a lover after all. My father's words are orders to me."
Daler sat there, dumbfounded. He felt his pugree tilt from his head. The girl who was sitting in front of him, who just told him about her marriage was his best friend and secret crush.
Although Inaam seemed to be very aware of Daler's feelings, she never made her first move. They liked each other and like little teenage boys and girls, they hide it from the world and from themselves.
