I turned around swiftly, all of those years of learning Kung-fu would not go to waste! I tried to get a good glimpse of the mans face but... I couldn't. He was in heavy makeup and had a beanie on top of his shaggy hair. He cleared his throat and said "Maya Turner, right?" "Uh, yeah, how do you know my name?" I replied, unsure. "Maya, I need to take you away from your mother, she's gotten out of hand. She can't look after you properly anymore" he said, with a deep, croaky voice. I pulled his hand off my shoulder and gave a confused look. Was this man being serious and if he was, how could I trust him? He could be plotting to kidnap me... kill me. Luckily for me I am extremely gifted at being able to tell if someone is lying, so I looked deeply into his eyes and asked "are you telling the truth and what do you want to do with me?" My heart was racing now, the moment of truth. He replied with "yes. And I just told you. I want to save you from you're abusive relationship with your mother." I could see he wasn't lying.
