Nico and Will are in their 'I like you but I'm annoyed by you but our flirting is weird and is very argumentive because I don't want people to think I like you' Phase of their friendship weirdness. When Nico is really annoyed, he carries around an apple. And whenever Will starts to aproach him, he makes a big show of taking a huge bite out of the apple.
When Will questions him about it, Nico answers with, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Takes another bite and calmly walks away.
