I jump on to my little bed, as I lay down on my pillow I begin to open his letter.

         Dear Victoria,

Oh how I've longed for you , my stomach gets butterflies every time I wrote to you, just thinking that you will be reading it and in a few days I'll have my own letter to read. But we know that you want to know what has happened since the last letter..well  Scott the interesting fellow was shot. He isn't looking very good which is sad because his wife of three years is pregnant with their  second child. We have changed stations again, and again I can't tell you where but this place is nicer we are stations to help a village as of right now. The people are friendly and listen to our instructions well. That's about it. I miss you so much tweedle bug. Even though the weather is still hot and wet, and the food the is stale and cold. My heart grows larger  and happier just thinking about you and knowing that we will see each other soon . I love you.

                                       xxxxx ~Derek

My heart flutters reading each word knowing he wrote it out with his own hand. I kiss the paper and run downstairs. As I go down the stairs I look at the pictures I have hanging up, my favorite is the one that I spot. It was the day Derek told me he was leaving.

He drove me to the old cliff that hangs over the ocean, with a picnic in his car we stayed there all day and most of the evening. He opened the hood of his car so we could see the stars better. We laughed and sang and cuddled the night away until we stopped, I could tell something was bothering Derek.

"Tori, I have something to tell you ." He stuttered .

"Spit it out Derek, I can take it ." I said as I held his hand for encouragement.

Held my face and looked into my eyes. "I have to go."

"Go where?" I knew where I just didn't believe it.

"I'm leaving in three days, to go to war. "

My breathing slowed , my heart rate slowed and the way I felt about him bounced through the roof. The worst part about it was and still is the uncertainty of them ( or Derek in this case ) ever coming home . And that truly does hurt.

That day he left me was the first time  he ever told me he loved me, the first time he kissed me and the first time I have ever loved anybody that much.

Since then its been around five to six months since he's been gone. We live together, its Derek , me and Tank. Tank is Derek's dog, he is a large Rottweiler  with a very dark and the prettiest blue eyes you've ever seen. It gets very lonely. But I work at my fathers little gorecey store. I go in on the weekends and go to medical school on the weekdays.

I take out a piece of paper and search for a pencil, when I find it I Begin to write back .

My true love, Derek,

I  miss you to the stars, and back. I wish this awful war would stop already, so many unnecessary deaths, yet we still fight. I hope your friend Scott becomes better. My sister has her baby , Carl is his name. I'm going over there in about two weeks , to meet him. Nursing is well I'm almost to mid terms so I will see how I do. Love you with all my heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears.

             Xoxoxo Tori
