My name is Liah Austerlitz. I know nothing of my heritage and I don't know where i came from, because my mom won't tell me. even worse, she moved us here to a creepy new town called Rose Vine. for some reason, she's trying to keep us away from people. hence the move to a small town. I sighed as I looked in the mirror. I had red hair and light green eyes. they don't really look good together. today was the first day of school, and I was intent on keeping myself unnoticed.
"it's completely impossible." I turned around and saw Liam leaning on my door sill.Liam is my twin, but unlike me, he's got brown (normal brown) hair with the same set of green eyes. 18 years of existing together and he gets better at reading my mind. I grinned at my twin brother.
"let's." he replied, making the first move down stairs.
After breakfast we headed to our new school, Rose Vine academy, which I figured was the only school in town, looking at how small it was. Liam and I walked side by side, oblivious to the stares of the people around us. we walked to the admissions office to get our class schedules and to buy lockers. then it was show time.
"students, let us all welcome our new classmates." our homeroom teacher, mr. Christoffe, said. Liam and I looked at each other. we both hated being the center of attention. at last, he sighed and went first.
"Liam."
"Liah."
"twins."
"nice to meet you."
then we grinned. alternate responses were our style, our way of killing the nervousness. after that gay introduction, we shuffled awkwardly to our seats. I was seated behind a guy in a hoodie. he was looking down, and he looked like the type of guy who built high walls and never let anyone through them. 2 rows ahead of me was Liam. beside him, a pale, gothic (I think) girl with long and straight black hair and purple eyes. she was deep in thought. I wondered if it was about Liam. my brother was eye candy, and girls always swooned over him.
the homeroom teacher interrupted my thoughts about the goth girl when he started discussing the academy's rules. it turns out that they followed the "one class, same sched" curriculum, not those classmates per subject type of schooling we had back then. so I was stuck with the same classmates for the whole year. sigh. this is going to be a very boring school year.

"there will be tryouts for various sports club this afternoon." the P.E. teacher announced. "but before we start the orientation, let's check the attendance first."
at the mention of sport try outs, my ears perked up. I was a swimmer at my previous school in Arizona, and I was bummed when I had to quit just because we moved to this stupid down n the middle of nowhere. at least now I have something to look forward to. and P.E. was our last subject today, which meant that try outs were due in a few minutes.
"Austerlitz Liah and Austerlitz Liam." the P.E. teacher called out. oh, right. attendance.
"here." Liam and I answered in chorus.
that's when I noticed the reaction of the girl beside Liam and the boy infront of me. it was a look of disbelief, like they couldn't accept the fact that we were here.
"is there something wrong, Macie Cross and Alex Rosenthal? it looks like both of you has got an eye on the new kids." the P.E. teacher called their attention. the whole class snickered. looks like I wasn't the only one who noticed. how come we didn't get the same reaction from them earlier? was it because of our last names? they didn't react when Liam and I didn't mention it, but at the mention of it by our P.E teacher they suddenly looked like they were shocked to see two Austerlitzs. now this is something....
