-6 years later, Lanes End Farm-
6 years after Emily retired, she was now 10 years old, she still had not had a foal, she had been bred to some of the finest stallions in the world, but unable to become in foal. Emily was bred to Triple Crown winner Unwanted, the unlikely champion. I.R.P have hoped that she would become in foal to the great champion...30 days later. It was confirmed Emily was in foal to her first ever foal.
-April 23, 2028-
Emily was getting ready to give birth, her owners First Winter Racing and breeder Emily Halten was at Lanes End waiting for news on the mare and foal. Then a groom came out. A groom that everyone was familiar with.
"How's she Michael?" Nathan asked.
"She's great." He smiled.
"What did she have?" Caitlyn asked, holding her and Nathan's 6 year old son, Eric who was asleep.
"She had a colt..." Michael turned away. "I'm just not sure he will make it. He's small."
"What color is he?" Jack asked.
"Right now he looks bay," Michael said
"he resembles his sire ate the moment." Michael said.
"Can we see her?" Jack asked, Michael nodded and they all followed him.
Michael stopped at a large stall, and everyone looked it. They saw the big chestnut mare lying next to her son, she nuzzled him and he started to try and get up, when he started to try Emily stood up and waited for him. Everyone smiled at the sight, the mare had finally had a foal, he was small like his sire. But he wasn't for sale.
"She had troubles when giving birth." Michael looked at all of us. "But she looks fine now, the vet is going to check her up, but he doesn't suggest breeding her again." Everyone's smile dropped when Michael said that, one foal. But they had to listen to him for the safety of their beloved mare.
Nathan's 5 year old daughter, Ellie, ran behind him and slowly peered into the stall. She giggled at the sight of the foal.
"Bubba!" She squealed and turned to her dad. "Daddy, his name is Bubba and he shall be my bestfriend." She said and then motioned Nathan to come closer, so he kneeled down and she cupped her hand around Nathan's ear and whispered. "Don't tell Eric, he'll be mad."
-3 weeks later-
Emily and her son, now known as Bubba according to Caitlyn and Nathan's son and daughter, Ellie and Eric, had reported to be doing great, until one night Nathan got a call..
"Hello?" Nathan said tiredly.
"Nathaniel, it's me Michael you have to get to Lanes End as soon as possible. It's Emily." Nathan was suddenly awake now, and he hung up and got dressed without telling Caitlyn where he was going and got in his car and drove towards Lanes End.
He thought to the last time Michael had sounded that concerned for Emily.
It was back when Emily turned 3 on Eclipse Award night, she had gotten and severe case of Colic which had side lined her for quite a while. But she came back and ran like she had never had the deathly sickness. Many thoughts ran through Nathan's head.
Was it the foal? What if Emily is sick? What if the foal is injured?
He pulled into Lanes End and ran out of his car as fast as possible and headed to the mare area and saw a light on and ran to it, there he found Michael and everyone else crying. Nathan looked at Michael confused.
"Come here." Michael said and lead Nathan away from the stall. "Nathan I'm going to tell you what happen, but please don't freak out. I'm just going to quickly say. There was nothing that could be done to save her..." Nathan's eyes widened with shock. "Emily got into a paddock accident today. She broke her cannon bone pretty badly, the colt is fine but...Emily was euthanized quickly after. I'm sorry Nathan." More tears slid down Michaels face as he told Nathan, but Nathan just stood there in shock.
His beloved Emily, was dead.
The mare he had loved so, dead at the young age of 10. The mare he visited every weekend, was gone...finally tears came and Nathan walked over to her stall and saw her covered with a blanket. The pink and black colors of First Winter Racing, the colors that Emily ran in for the final part of her career.
Emily The First. Champion Filly was really gone. A sob escaped Nathan and he leaned against the stall door and slid to the ground and started to cry harder. Nicole sat next to him and comforted him as he cried.
"Shh...its okay Nathan...shes...shes in a better place now." Nicole whispered to him and hugged him.
He turned his head to the inside of the stall and looked at her again.
Still not breathing. He got up and entered the stall uncovered her head and sat in front of her, he hugged and pet her big head one last time before covered her again and leaving the stall.
"We'll bury her here." Nathan said. "She'll be buried whole, and be along side her dam. Emmy. Who came here 6 years ago with Emily and died 2 years ago...we'll tell everyone in the morning. But now, I need to go home and let everything sink in." Everyone nodded in agreement with Nathan, he looked at Emily Halten, the breeder of the great mare, she had been followed Emily since Nathan and Jack bought her, now she could only cry now because the Emmy's Love's greatest daughter was dead.
Nathan turned away from everyone and walked away from the stable and to his car, but before he got in, he stopped.
"Gods speed Emily...you'll know I miss you Princess. Don't worry, your son, he'll be a champion. Just like you."
