"ian, i gave him fifty bucks just to sit, eat, maybe even talk with me. don't you think that's a little too much?" scarlett didn't realize how crazy the bribe sounded until she actually said it herself.

she was giving some dude that hate her fifty dollars just to have lunch with her.

this better be worth it.

ian and scarlett spent their time walking and talking around the garden, scarlett re-enacting matt's reactions from when she was pushed into him, and from when she asked him to have lunch with her. she also brought up her planned rendezvous with bobby.

ian knew bobby and scarlett had been friends since they were young, and he knew that they would never be more than friends. bobby was like scarlett's older brother.

they had met through their parents, who had worked in the building before they were born. bobby's mom, alexandra had gone on a mission with scarlett's dad, eli, and throughout the weeks they spent together, they became friends.

bobby's dad had been hesitant to become friends with scar's dad, but that changed when he realized eli had no intentions with his girlfriend.

unfortunately, eli had not gotten over his girlfriend of seven years. while they were dating, eli had joined the espionage business, and he had planned on telling her until he had found out she was pregnant with scarlett.

after giving birth to scar, eli waited a few months to tell his girlfriend the truth. once he did though, she just left him. she didn't want to get involved with his business, and she didn't want anything to do with the baby anymore, so she also left scar behind.

scarlett's only motherly figure was alexandra.

eli, alexandra, and even bobby's dad, isaiah, all raised scarlett to the best of their abilities.

they knew scar wouldn't have a normal life, but luckily, the young girl was completely content with the abnormal life she had.

scar looked up to her own father the most, and when he was away for long periods of time on a mission, she stayed with bobby's family. she would pray every night that her dad would make it home safe, and he always did.

now, isaiah and alexandra retired from being spies to train upcoming spies. eli was still a spy, and was currently on a mission.

scar rarely saw her dad, but it was okay because he would call her every chance he could, and that was almost everyday.

in fact, her dad was calling her as she was talking to ian.

she answered the phone, putting it up to her ear, "hey, dad."

she mouthed a quick 'sorry' to ian.

this gave ian the cue that he should probably go. scarlett's phone calls with her dad varied, but they could last for an hour.

"i heard you're going undercover with that champion boy, huh?" his raspy voice sounded through the speaker of the phone.

of course this is the first thing he mentions.

scarlett twisted a strand of her hair around her finger, "yeah..."

"helios decides to put you on a once-in-a-lifetime mission to gather information about an infamous sex trafficker, and he pairs you up with your rival?!"
