Chapter 1:
"I'm sure you will make lots of friends" my Mom tried to convince me. We are moving to an apartment so you will have a bunch of wonderful people living all around you. I am not thinking about making any friends right now, at my old school when I tried to explain to my friends that I was moving, instead of telling me it would be okay, or that we could still email each other, they just got really mad at me. So much for FRIENDS. But it gets worse. The apartment we are moving into is rated 1 star, and is called the bloody whale apartments.
When we get close to the apartment, I see the sign. The letters are faded, and the sign is small. It is almost like that feeling when you go over a bump on a rollercoaster, except it is also mixed in with a bit of anger. Why did my mom bring me here?!! I take a deep breath and feel more sadness. How can I have so many mixed emotions? When we walk inside I am surprised to see a very friendly girl behind a desk. "Welcome!" she says, smiling at me. She catches me staring at the sign. "Oh, sorry about that. It was one of the only name thats not taken. I laugh, I wonder why; I say sarcastically. She laughs and gives us our room keys. "What is your name by the way?", Chloe I respond. "Nice, I'm Lia, she says.
We head up to our room, (Which happens to be up 7 floors with no elevator). I don't know why Lia wants to work here, she could get a great job anywhere else. I realize that my mom is already two staircases ahead of me. I speed up to find my mom stopped in her tracks. Mom? Are you alright? I ask. My mom turns to me, her face pale as snow. "I'm fine" my mom says. What is it? I ask. My mom turns to me, her face dead serious. "Chloe, I want you to be careful around here, okay? If you ever see something suspicious, call me." My hands start shaking, and my throat becomes dry. "Chloe, she says, look at me!" I love you Chloe.
