She stared in the mirror, mostly at angry red slashes on her face. She closed her other eye, opening it quickly at the darkness, and memories, it brought.

You could've had it so your eye wouldn't be shut.

Why did you say no?

She heard footsteps outside the bathroom door. It was probably Jim or Sebastian waiting for her so they could leave the hospital.

Alex took a deep breath, shakily touching the scar. Her hand was dropped at the pain.

"Shït," she hissed, feeling her head spin.

She tugged out her ponytail, her hair cascading down. She moved it so her scarred eye was hidden.

She moved to the door, opening it. Immediately, her parents were next to her.

"Cub, are you okay?" Jim asked softly, gently gripping her shoulder.

Your worrying them to death with this.

Why'd you mess up?

"I-I'm fine," she muttered. She was tired.

Sebastian didn't say anything, instead looking at her worriedly.

The family left, and Alex stared outside.

Life blurred past the car. It was night now.

The radio played quietly. Alex flinched slightly at the sound of cars flying by.

Sebastian noticed, "hey, sweetheart?"

Alex looked to her father, forcing a smile.

"It's okay to cry."

The words stuck with her for some reason.

It's okay to cry.

Was he talking about her eye or the accident from twelve years ago?

She only nodded, and kept her gaze to her hands.

Just moments ago, these hands held a weapon...

Alex shook her head at the thought.

What will Lilly think?

Alex stiffened. Tears welled in her eye as her thoughts went wild with lies.

She didn't notice that they were home until she was gently sat down on the couch.

Sebastian sat next to her, gently brushing aside the hair that hid the painful mark.

Alex flinched back, "I-I look horrible, stop."

Sebastian smiled sadly, "sweetheart, you don't look horrible."

Alex looked at her dad. She knew he had scars; he's told her stories about each one.

Alex looked down again, swallowing a lump in her throat.

"D-Dad?"

"Mm?"

"H-How'd you get used to looking in the mirror and seeing what's happened to you?"

Sebastian thought for a moment. "I embraced them, I guess. I knew they wouldn't go away, so I accepted that they were a part of me."

Alex looked up again. Tears streaked down her face now.

"I'm sorry."

"For what, cub?"

"For messing up..."

Sebastian pulled Alex into a hug, letting her cry on his shoulder.

"We've all messed up, sweetheart."

"Not as bad as me! I pretty much lost an eye!"

Sebastian gently rubbed her back, humming soothingly. "Alex, this wasn't your fault."

"B-But I still look horrible..."

"Alex, you're as beautiful as Aphrodite. I'm sure Lilly would agree with me."

Alex smiled a little, looking up at Sebastian.

"Did you reference Aphrodite since I can agree with her beauty?"

Sebastian laughed, grinning a little. "Maybe."

Alex grinned in return. "Thanks Dad."

"Anytime, cub."
