Chapter 10

“Annie, I can’t believe you just did that!” shrieked Sofia.

“Those girls were obnoxious bitches.  I don’t care what rivalry we have.  Wishing ill on another player is just plain disrespectful and messed up!”

“Yeah,” her teammates agreed before Sofia continued.  “Did you see Ronaldo’s face?  I don’t think he’s ever been rejected by a girl like that before,”

Everyone laughs and Annabelle smirks.  “Well he needs to get it through his head that the world doesn’t revolve around him,”

They soon arrived back at their hotel and everyone decided to turn in for the afternoon before grabbing dinner together later.  Annabelle lied in her bed as she thought about the Barcelona team.  She did miss everyone.  She hasn’t seen them in months, let along paid attention to their games.  She took out her phone and decided to call her brother.  He picks up after just one ring and it made her smile.

“Hey Ger,”

“Hey Annie.  What’s up?  Is everything okay in Madrid?”

“Oh, yeah!  Of course it is, why wouldn’t it be?”

“Well, you rarely call out of the blue like this,”

“Oh… that’s true…”

“What’s the matter?”

“Nothing… It’s just… I realized that I haven’t seen you guys in such a long time.  I miss you all,” she whines a little and Gerard laughs.

“Oh Annie, you’ll be back in Barcelona tomorrow,”

“Yeah…”

“By the way, how’d your game go?”

“We kicked their butt!”

“Nice!  How about this, we’ll throw a party when you get back?  Since your holiday break already started and Shakira will be in town too.  I’ve asked her to take some time off for the holidays,”

“Aw!  Really?!  I haven’t seen her in the longest time!  Gosh Gerard… You’re getting old!  Being a dad already and all,”

“Thanks for reminding me…” he groans.  They chatted for a while longer before hanging up and he learned that they had won most of their La Liga games.  She was so proud.  Annabelle was definitely excited to be home soon.

Annabelle was so surprised when she walked into her house.  True to his promise Gerard had threw a party for her.  Though she just wasn’t expecting the whole Barcelona team being there nor was she expecting it so soon. 

“Congrats Annie!” exclaims Luna thrusting a copy of La Vanguardia in her face.  “You were featured on the front page article!” Annabelle grabs the newspaper and it read:

Teen football sensation Annabelle Pique leads Universitat de Barcelona as captain into their 8th consecutive win of the season against Universidad Complutense de Madrid!  The younger sister of the professional footballer, Gerard Pique, is indeed living up to the family reputation of producing star athletes.  Not only is she a looker, she is also the key playmaker and a power forward, truly a triple threat.  Rumor is spreading that FC Barcelona is looking to make an offer for the young Pique for their women’s team in hopes of increasing their odds in the 2014 UEFA Champions League.

Her jaw dropped as she re-read the last line multiple times.  She looks up at her brother and he nods.

“Yeah, the rumors are true.  We heard that the women’s team is super interesting in signing you.  But it’s just a matter of when and if you’ll take it,”
