chapter 1 A Fresh Start
High school............a great big scary place that somehow manages to turn a girl into a woman, a boy into a man, and help kids find their calling. Well for me, I have always played soccer and even if I don't plan on playing professionally I wanted to play in high school. I had heard that high school soccer was a whole new world, a lot more aggression and strategy, but I tried out for the girl's soccer team any way. My journey started Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at approximately 8am, this was the first day of summer conditioning. We were only allowed to run, we could not touch a ball around coach until someday in August. So I showed up and about 12 other girls were there, we started with the bridge run, a 3 mile run to the bridge and back. I came in second to a girl who graduated last year. Then we did sprints and an absolute workout. This continued every Tuesday and Thursday from 8-9 until August 13.
chapter 2 The Next Level
August 13 was the start to 3 day tryout "week" . These were the hardest 3 days of running ever. It was from 8-11 the 13th, 14th, and the 15th we ran a hard fitness drill, then ran a 2 hour practice using the ball. I was constantly tired I didn't know how I would make it through, but I did and I succeeded because I made the girl's varsity team even though we only have a varsity it was still a great accomplishment. And I was ready for the next step playing in a play day.
chapter 3 A Day of Firsts
At the play day we played snow hill, Kent, and colonel Richardson it was our last opportunity to impress coach and I think k I did. In the end we lost to Kent, but we played in strange positions so coach could see where we can and can't play. Then came our scrimmage at Harve de Grace. The referees didn't show up and we won 4-1. After that came the first game. We were playing Gunnston a school none of us had heard of, we came out strong with an easy 7-0 victory with all goals scored in the first half.
chapter 3 An Overview of the Season
Our team ended up with a 6-6 record. Our most accomplishing win was our only regular season night game against Elkton, our arch enemy. We had lost to them in double over time earlier in the season 2-1. This game we defeated them on their home turf 3-1 and I scored my first high school goal ever! Another accomplishing game for me was against joppatown. I scored twice, my first goal was 2:30 in. Funny.....all my goals were scored against purple teams while playing in the rain. Anyway the next step was playoffs.
chapter 4 Playoffs
We had a regional title on our backs, so we were planning on making county history. Unfortunately, we fell short losing the regional championship game 2-0 against Mardella a team who we should have beat. Oh well, we'll dominate next year. I'll pick up with chapter 5 next season. I know this was a short story, but all in all sports seasons are so fun that they go by in a flash, so Julia st remember to open your eyes and experience a whole new world.
