"Come here, you~," I murmured to my best friend, Halen. We exchanged crooked smiles as he closed the distance between us and slid his hands onto my waist. We were at the winter formal and he was my date... But we're just friends. That's what I have to tell everyone. The thing is, I really think I might be in love with him. Typical, right? I don't know how he feels about me. That's the only thing I don't know about him. It was hard to keep my feelings concealed tonight, since he was looking dashing in his tuxedo. He wore a small white rose on his rounded lapel to match my shimmering white dress. I lightly rested my gloved hands on his broad shoulders.
"How was your night so far?" Halen asked, amusement sparkling in his eyes. I didn't want to answer since most of the night we were both surrounded by our seperate groups of friends. If I said it was bad, he'd be offended, and it was just starting to get good. Yet, if I did say it was good, would he think I liked him?
"It's fine. Not exactly how I pictured it, but still.. fine." I answered slowly, busying myself with adjusting the collar of his shirt. He chuckled. Was it just me or did he pull me a little bit closer?
"You're so picky," he teased me. Suddenly, he gently and barely lifted me off the ground and spun me, easily setting me down in the same spot. I must have let out a little squeal, since some of our friends turned to stare. I didn't exactly care at that point, because Halen and I were so close that our stomachs were nearly pressed together. I should have cared, because one of my friends did the inexplainable.
"Just tell us already, do you like her or not?!" hollered Candace. I never really did trust her... I couldn't believe she just blew the secret. I'd rather tell Halen in person, or perhaps, bathe in crocodile skin rather than let Candace do this. My hands fell, and I froze.
Halen suddenly had to go to the bathroom, apparently, and left before anyone could say anything more.
My heart plunged down to my stomach.
