Night of Dreams

Last time:

She felt herself drift off into the world of dreams, only these dreams were strange, frightening and unlike anything she had ever dreamed before

In her dream, she was standing on the muddy grass by a pond surrounded by woods. Above, the trees cleared so that you could see the night sky beautifully, the moon was so large it felt like it was trying to bend down and touch the very spot. The stars seemed to dance around it, twinkling and shifting across the midnight with no apparent image in mind. Standing on the beach, her back to Adri, was a woman with long, curly blond hair that was almost white. She had pale white skin, beautiful but almost unnatural looking. She wore a long navy-blue dress that brushed against the ground when she moved. The dress had glitter on it so that it almost resembled the night sky. The woman turned to face Adri, her hair covering one of her eyes. She had dark brown eyes, almost the color of charcoal, and her full pink lips stood out against her pale white face.

"It is almost time for you to claim your destiny," the woman said.

She spun elegantly and exploded into stars that floated up and joined the others in the night sky. The ground below Adri shifted, and she fell through the dirt. Then the dream changed.

She was standing on a long marble pathway that was easily as big as a four-lane highway. On either side of the walkway was six twelve-foot white marble columns, each with a torch on the side and a bronze brazier on the top. At the end of the walkway was a large set of stairs as wide as the walkway, that was made of white marble with bronze railings. She walked forward and climbed the stairs. When she reached the top, she stood in front of a large, round throne room. The wall was a marble garden-style wall, grapevines and flowers growing all over it, adorning it with nature's decoration. In the middle of the room, there was a large sundial about six feet in diameter around which were placed twelve thrones. Straight ahead of the stairs, there were four thrones taller than all the rest.

The middle two of those four were slightly higher than even those, and the left one of those was higher still. The highest one was a blue topaz throne with soft white cushions. Every once in a while, the topaz would get darker, almost like it was switching to onyx, or the cushions would turn gray and the chair would flash like lightning.

Next to that one, the second tallest throne was a dark-stained oak chair with blue and green cushions. The back of the chair was adorned with peacock feathers. It glowed a beautiful golden light almost as if sheer power was contained in it trying desperately to get free.

On either side of those two thrones was the other tall thrones which seemed to be polar opposites. The one next to the tallest was also blue, darker though like the ocean. The chair had seaweed and kelp growing at the base and wrapping around the legs and arms of the chairs. The cushions on it were sandy brown, seashells embroidered on them. The chair smelled like the ocean, filling the air with a salty ocean smell.

Opposite of that one was a black throne like coals of a fire. In the cracks of it, there shone a red light like hot embers, and the throne smoked and sent sparks into the air. The cushions were a dark grey and faces swirled in them like souls being tortured inside the chair itself. The chair seemed to radiate anger, hatred and despair and she could feel it trying to take over her emotions.

On the right of that one were four more thrones, each one different and also on the other side, on the left of the ocean themed throne. Some thrones were similar, for example one was a light brown chair covered in grape vines overflowing with deep purple grapes with leopard-print cushions that was almost reflected in a chair on the other side except this one had deep purple flowers and red cushions. Others however could not appear more different such as one metal chair with barbed wire on the back and machine guns strapped to the sides compared to one white throne with rainbow cushions on it that seemed to radiate happiness. There was a wide variety of powers reflected in the thrones, but there was one she felt herself almost being drawn to.

On the left side as a throne that was made of glowing amber, the chair had a sun carved into the back and the sun seemed to dance and spin. The chair glowed warm and bright, white cushions barely visible behind a young man sitting in it. The young man seemed about twenty or so, perfectly normal yet handsome and radiating a kind of simple power like a CEO or a minor TV star. He had shining blond hair, bright blue eyes, and a tan that made him look like he lived on a private island. In his hands he held a ukulele and he absent-mindedly plucked a few strings as he muttered some kind of poem Adri had learned about in English class a while ago: haiku? He seemed to notice a presence in the room, and he stiffened, the ukulele crashing to the floor.

"The time is coming. Mistakes must be fixed, balance restored. Old wrongs made right," He yelled.

The marble Adri stood on began to crack as the man collapsed. He lay there on the floor as the cracks got larger, covering the whole floor and glowing with a golden light. Adri fell into the darkness.

She fell for what seemed like hours though it was probably only minutes before se hit the cold hard ground. It felt like stone, though she couldn't see it. The room around her was absolutely dark. Adri felt her heartbeat start to pick up speed, her mind racing, cold sweat beading her forehead. This happened every time she was in absolute darkness and she didn't know why. It felt as though someone had stripped away all of her courage, strength, and voice and left her alone. There was a deep, evil laughter that sounded off in the distance, echoing through the room. It got louder and louder, shaking the floor, resonating through her mind. She collapsed to her knees and cried out. Then she woke up.
