Sitting in the darkness of an almost empty room, there was a man, alone and sweaty, watching a small television screen.
His breathing was heavy, his brown hair looked as if it hadn't been cut in months, and two large dark circles had formed underneath his tired hazel eyes. If he had been outside, you could have easily mistaken him for a beggar. But he was there, sitting in a dusty armchair, his back bent and his eyes staring at the screen.
He looked dead, his soul taken away by the many adverts trying to sell useless products by using nameless, perfect-looking women.
He was tired of it, but what could he do?
« We all live through existential misery »,
He would tell himself whenever he'd feel despaired about his situation. As he took the remote control to turn off the TV, a different, strange-looking ad came on.
"Tired of surfing through
Existential misery?
Call this number:
0800 888 6448"For once, his dead mind was intrigued, wide open to what was going on. He couldn't explain why this interested him more than many other ads, he just felt like something special was hidden behind these words. And there was only one way to find out.
Without getting up from his chair, he grabbed the landline on a little table that was right beside him. He dialed the number and took the phone to his ear.
On the other side of the line, a woman's voice could be heard:
« Welcome to Mantra.
Before the truth will set you free,
it will piss you off.How may I help you? »
And that's how one of the biggest cult ever created started.
