DRIVING MISS YIN

Chapter Six

Six weeks ago…

It has been close to two months now since I’m driving Xiao Qiao. Two months since I’ve met her, known her and decided that she is the one for me.

I couldn’t deny it anymore. I am in love with Miss Yin Xiao Qiao. Lei knew it. Xi Men teased me about it. My mother thankfully has remained blind. Of my feelings that is. I have managed to keep avoiding her at the house and she knew better than to come to my office and asked me questions.

So far, it has been going on so well between Xiao Qiao and I. I am no longer jealous of her friendship and practice time with Lei. But it was hard for me to perceived what she truly felt for me. She was just too nice and too friendly to everyone. She treated me the same way she treated others.

I know this isn’t right to do so but I couldn’t help comparing her and Caina. They were complete opposites. I am also curious to know if she has an excess baggage from her past. She did tell me that she left someone here in Shanghai. I’m just waiting for the right opportunity to ask her about this. Because I don’t think I can deal for the second time another Mr. Obstacle. Gimme a break!

Tonight I’m picking up Xiao Qiao at SMC. It’s almost seven already. Their practice was extending beyond five and I happened to have a meeting that ended late.
I arrived just on time when Lei was leaving.

“Mei Zuo, I’ll see you at Ah Si’s place in a while.” He said before proceeding to his car that was parked a few feet away from mine.
I nodded and waved him goodbye.

Xiao Qiao waved goodbye at him too.
We walked in silence towards my car. I opened the passenger door for her. Once she was inside I quickly got on my side of the car and drove us out of SMC.

“Can I ask you something?” I looked at her then back on the road.
“Sure. What is it?”
“Um, last time you told me that you left someone here in Shanghai and that he doesn’t know you exist.” I said.
“Oh that.” She chuckled.
“Do you have someone you love already?” I asked her straight out the question that has been bugging me since.
She held her hands together. “Honestly, I do.”
“You do?” I couldn’t help but be surprised and be frustrated at the same time. Why do I keep liking ladies who likes other men already? Is this my curse in life?
“Well, technically, I loved someone in the past.” She clarified.
“What do you mean in the past?”
“It was before I studied in America.” She answered.
I had to do a double take at her with what she just said. She told me on our first date that she studied in America sometime in junior high. So my jealousy is over some guy from all those years ago?!
“Are you teasing me?”
She shook her head. “No. It was love at first sight with that boy.”
“What a lucky boy!” I said sarcastically.
“Oh no, not at all. I told you he doesn’t know I exist.”
“So do you still love him now?”
“Not anymore. It was a long time ago.”
“How about now? Do you love someone now?”
“I don’t know. You?” She turned the question unto me.
“I don’t know either.” I said nonchalantly.
“If you don’t mind my asking, do you enjoy driving me to and from work?” She had a serious look on her face.
“Let’s just say that driving you to and from work is one of the things I look forward to in my day.” I gave her one of my sincerest smile.
“Thank you.” She smiled back at me.

Six weeks later…

The day of the music recital finally came. Shan Cai was unable to come but the recently returned from honeymoon Xi Men and Xiao You were in attendance. Also in the audience were our mothers. My mother. Xiao Qiao’s mother. Xi Men’s mother. Xiao You’s parents. Lei’s parents. This was a sorta big event I was organizing and the pressure was upon me. Tonight’s music recital must and should be a smashing success since all proceeds will go to the benefit of children with autism.
