“REMORSES AND ROSES”

It was the first of July. The cold wind hit my face as I walked over to his place. The chattering of my teeth was the sound I heard as I wrapped my coat tighter around my frail body.

The streets of Horton were full of people bustling about. Some were trying to go to work and some were having leisure walks with their good old friends. Not for me.  I need to get to his place and make a visit.

“Therese!”

I turned around and saw my old friend, Deanna.

“Oh, hello.” I greeted her and flashed a smile.

“How are you doing?” she asked me.

“I’m okay. How about you?”

“I can say the same.” She replied.

“Come on, let’s have coffee! We haven’t had a proper chat in ages!”

“Deanna, you’re exaggerating!” I exclaimed and laughed.

Maybe visiting him can wait.

“So what do you say? Coffee?”

“Okay, okay.” I smiled.

“Come on!” Deanna spoke, her voice full of excitement.

We both walked over to The Java Place and settled at a small booth.

“The wind is very harsh.” Deanna commented as she rummaged her bag for her purse.

“I couldn’t agree more.”

“My treat! What do you want?” Deanna said.

“A latte would do.” I smiled at her.

“Okay. You sit here and wait okay?”

“I won’t leave.” I said.

I sat back down at the comfortable chair and averted my gaze to the window. I saw a couple passing by and I can’t help admire them. My mind wandered off to him.

I remember the days he made me laugh and feel so loved like there was no tomorrow.

Flashback, a year and a half ago.

“Hey Therese!” he called out.

“Well hello to you too.” I said and gave him a peck on the cheek.

“I brought you something.” He said, holding me by the waist and kissing my forehead.

“What is it?” I smiled.

“Something you like but guess what it is!”

“Aw come on! You know I hate guessing!” I pouted.

“You look cute.” He said, pinching my cheeks.

“Come on, guess! You have three tries.”

“Hmm fine! Is it chocolates?” I smiled cheekily.

“No, try again my love!”

“A book?”

“Still no. One chance left!”

“What would happen if I don’t get it right the third time?”

“You’ll see.” He winked at me and flashed a smile.

I rolled my eyes and guessed. “Is it a teddy bear?”
