+++It was a Friday night. Usually, I would be wrapped under half a dozen comforters, with a cup of hot cocoa in on hand and a copy of little women in the other, ready to take on the adventures and burdens of the March family.
Instead, I was sat in front of a mirror, whilst Molly, who's idea this was in the first place, carefully straightened my hair. It had been over a year since I last straightened it, and it felt strange for it to lack so much moisture.
"Do we really have to do this?" I asked as molly braided the front section of my hair, keeping it off my eyes. My hair is long, so it took a long time for her to braid it all the way to the bottom.
She sighed as she secured the plait with an elastic band, tucking it behind my ear.
"You know that mum won't let me go to Cams party unless you come too, and we all know what happens when you try to dress yourself"
I feigned hurt, clutching my heart with my hands as she rolled her eyes and combed through the remainder of my hair. "You know I hate partying, I can't dance and I know absolutely no one."
"You know me." She replied, putting the comb back in its original position, after she had finished tugging painfully through my now battered hair.
"That's different, and besides, you have your own friends."
Though we were twins, Molly and I couldn't be more different. Our physical appearances were almost identical, but our personalities altered in such ways that it ripped through to our appearances. Like the fact, that if given the choice, Molly would always choose shorts over sweatpants, even in the middle of December. The difference in our personalities, led to friendships being made that did not include one another. Molly, being self-confident and optimistic, quickly gained popularity and made friends with cheerleaders, jocks and hot boys who make girls swoon at their every word. I guess you could say that I was unpopular, with only Cara and Elise to hang around with at breaks.
Molly took a long time to reply, knowing it was a touchy subject for me. "I'm not going to leave you Delilah."
"You'll take one look at Cam-"
She cut me off before I could finish.
"Delilah, you are my sister, more than that, you are my other half. I'm not going to leave you for some guy"
"Some guy 'ey? Isn't this the guy you've been chasing after for like 3 months?"
She smacked me playfully on the arm.
"I thought you promised you would never mention that."
I laughed and showed her my crossed fingers, waving them in her face as I turned to stand up from the chair.
"I had my fingers crossed."
She sighed and walked over to my wardrobe, muttering something about never forgiving me for it. Opening the doors, her mouth opened into an o as she saw the state my wardrobe was in.
My clothes lay abandoned at the base of the cupboard, and only a few t-shirts were hung up like they were supposed to be. I owned no dresses, and the only nice top I have was currently in the wash, after I spilt milk down it last night whilst I was trying to make tea.
