As Lilith wakes up, she squints her eyes at the morning light shining through her sheer curtains. She stretches and then gets out of bed startled by her sharp cold tile floors.
"My goodness. I love the cold season, but these cold floors sure do get to me," she says.
After washing her face and completing her usual morning routine, Lilith makes her way down the spiraling staircase of her home to have breakfast with her sister.
"Good morning, Lilith! How are you feeling darling?"
"Morning, Sis. I'm feeling quite well actually... considering how late my shift was last night.""Ah yes those are the worst. Say, don't you have some of these delicious syrup drenched waffles I made. They will make you feel much better."
"Sounds fabulous. Oh... hey I meant to ask you something last night. When are you going to bring home that posh man you have been seeing? You two seem to be spending much time together."
"Oh, ha-ha well if I knew how badly you wanted to meet him we would have had supper already! But Sister, I want to meet the man I have seen walking with you to work and from. I have even seen him in your room!"
"What ever are you yapping about? A man? Following me from and to work? A man in my room? At night? Have you gone mad?"
"Why of course not. It's okay, Lil. You don't have to tell us about him yet," Freya conclusively says with a smirk.
Freya and Lilith say their goodbyes and begin their day. Lilith decides she is going to stop by her nearest furniture store and buy a nice boho-chic styled rug for her bedroom. When she arrives to the store, she feels as if someone were standing behind her and staring directly into her back. She stops and turns around to see if anyone is there only to find herself alone in the aisle. Lilith begins to think and ponder of what the odd feeling was. Was someone stalking her? Had there actually been someone staring at her? She enters a thought spiral as she contemplates and creates the worst scenarios. After a couple of minutes pass, she decides to turn back around fearing the man would be in front of her. Nonetheless, she shrugs off her paranoia and continues shopping. "Oh my! Well this one is just a beauty," she says excitedly. Finally, she heads to the cash register and pays for her rug.
After a long day of work, Lilith packs her things and walks home. As she is walking toward the front doorstep of her house, she makes a sudden stop. Lilith sees a tall and bulky man in all black through the window. He is standing as still as the dead in the corner of her living room. She begins breathing rapidly and looks around to see if there is anyone outside. No one else is out. When she looks back at the window, the man is gone. To Lilith's relief, her sister pulls up into the driveway.
"Lil, what's wrong? You look startled love."
"A-a man was inside. You-You didn't see him?"
"No. I did not."
"We are not going inside until someone searches our house."
"No, Lil honey trust me, all the windows and doors are locked. There is no way someone got in. I'll call the police though, just in case."
"Alright, thank you."
When the police arrive, they search all the rooms and say they found no one. Lilith's nerves are still unsettled but thanks them anyways. Later that evening, both sisters have supper. They catch up on their day and Lilith tells Freya about her new rug. Despite Freya's cheerful and energetic mood, her sister still feels shaken and full of angst. Lilith feels tired and says goodnight to her sister. When she is in her bathroom washing her face, she sees the reflection of the man in the mirror. She finishes washing off her cleanser and there is no longer a reflection. Lilith could not take it anymore. Although her decision is quite the impulsive one, she opts to inform her sister in the morning she is going to move into a different house.
"Lil! I'm going to miss you so much. We must visit each other on the weekends!"
"Of course, Freya. Thank you for helping me move my things over. I could not have done it myself."
"Well, it's late. I should head on home now. If you need anything you know I'm only a phone call away."
"As am I. Love you, Sister."
"Love you too! See you soon."
After having dinner and setting up some of her furniture, she gets ready for bed. Lilith enters her room and sees the man standing beside the window. He sees her. She sees him. There is no escape.
