'CAUSE WHEN OUR DEMONS COME DANCING IN THE SHADOWS TO A GAME THAT CAN'T BE WON'

The air was hot and stuffy in Tennessee as a young woman, dressed in a pair of jean shorts and a tank top, exited her house in search of her missing dog. "Rudy!" the woman called before bringing her fingers to her moth, whistling loudly.

"Rudy! Come on, it's too hot to make me come looking for you!" The woman sighed heavily in frustration as she leant down to pick up a dog toy that had been discarded on her front lawn - unaware of the two supernatural creatures that had appeared behind her.

"Excuse me," Klaus spoke in an atypical polite tone - his attempt at an American accent enough to make Thea's skin crawl. The aforementioned Lockwood teen stood stiff by Klaus' side - his hand wrapped securely around her waist.

To any onlookers, the gesture was innocent. They looked like the perfect couple. Thea, however, was well aware the hand currently digging into her hip-bone was there to stop her from trying to escape.

The woman jumped, a small gasp escaping her lips as she turned to face the supernatural pair. "Can I help you?" Thea scrunched her nose at the woman's rudeness. She had every right to be cautious - more than she was actually aware - but she didn't have to be rude.

"Yeah, uh, our car ran out of gas a couple of miles back," Klaus replied, unperturbed by the woman's blunt tone as he continued to smile politely. Thea wasn't sure which unsettled her more - Klaus' smile, or his conniving smirk.

"It feels like we've been walking forever. Yours is the first house we've come to, so we were just hoping that we could use your phone?" the Original hybrid asked as politely as he could - his American accent jarring.

The woman looked between the pair wearily, raising a brow as if to show she didn't trust them. Which, of course, she really shouldn't have. "Don't either of you have a cell phone?"

Thea gritted her teeth as Klaus squeezed her waist - silently communicating that it was time for her to play her part. Of course, the only part she wished to play was one where she could stab the hybrid and he'd actually be able to feel it.

"The battery died," Thea stated with a warm smile, holding her phone up towards the woman as if to prove her point. "And my boyfriend here," the brunette spoke through gritted teeth, the words physically paining her as she placed her hand on Klaus' chest - pointedly ignoring his arrogant smirk - "left his at home, he's not the brightest."

In spite of herself - and much to the unamusement of Klaus - the woman found herself smiling at Thea's teasing, though she still didn't trust them enough to allow them anywhere near her home.

Noticing the woman's hesitancy, and growing rather impatient for the stalling, Klaus sighed softly, "look, I promise neither of us are serial killers. We just want to use your phone."
