Life Afterwards

Free?

Toby sits uneasily as he fiddled with the handle of the blade in his pocket, "Free?" He asks as he cocks a brow and looks up at Anthony.

"Yes, free." Anthony replies with a smile, "You were taken care of my Mrs. Lovett and Mr. Todd right? How are they? I couldn't find them when I went in there to thank them."

"They're dead." Toby says nonchalantly as he looks away from Anthony.

"Dead? What on Earth happened in there while I was getting the coach?" Anthony asks as he looks between Toby and Johanna. Johanna began to look uneasy herself.

"Mr. Todd burned Mrs. Lovett. And I don't think you'd want to bring me if I've told you what happened to Mr. Todd after all those people he killed." Toby says.

"No, no... please tell me Toby." Anthony said and he looked at Johanna, "He tried to kill me because I saw him kill people. But he stopped because there was a scream, he told me to forget his face and left." She admitted quietly.

"Mrs. Lovett locked me in the place where they made the pies. I thought she could be the mother I never had... but I was wrong... in that place there was human fingers, hands and toes everywhere if I looked hard enough. Then a man, I think was Beadle Banfred fell from an opening, dead, with his throat slit... I screamed and tried to get out but I couldn't so I hid in the sewer when they came down looking for me. After Mr. Todd saw this lady apparently named 'Lucy' he lost all control and through Mrs. Lovett in the fire saying that she lied to him... he was holding that woman singing 'there was a barber and his wife' or whatever... I killed him. He knew I was going to and he gladly took it. Look." Toby takes out the blade from his pocket, "I killed him and I don't regret it..." he mutters. Toby needed to let all this out to someone because it was all stuck in his head, he did speak quietly but Anthony heard every word and so did Johanna.

Anthony looked away, "Oh... my... God..." he muttered in slight surprise, sadness and concern for the boy. Toby killing Mr. Todd did not bug him really because this kid has no where to go, and he's traumatized. "Oh my god... you poor child!" He says, hugging Toby. Toby was shocked, "You still care about my well being? You're not going to throw me out of this coach?" He asks and Anthony shook his head, "No... I will not." He promises. Toby smiles and hugs back for a 'thank you' and he thought to himself, 'He's so nice to me... maybe he can be my parent and she could possibly be the mother I long for...' and Johanna was smiling at Anthony and Toby as she pet the back of Toby's hair.

The coach came to a stop in front of a tavern near the water and out of London. They were free at last, but Anthony has a plan to get on a ship and go to America or somewhere... He first would love to marry Johanna in a small elope ceremony, with no one but them and a priest naming them married. Which was very kind of the priest, but that priest believed love was better without a huge ceremony.
