Warning: while I mention many artists during this time period, the one they bond over in later chapters will be made up just to simplify everything for me since I don't want to constantly look up songs/accurate dates/etc. (The band I made up is called Invisible Misery which will have similar music to guns n' roses, nirvana etc. Like it's a rock band k)
Also, Luke's ignorance is not my opinion, it's just for his character (sounds silly but sometimes if a character is ignorant and insults someone for their class/looks/etc, they think I think that way...*rolls eyes* character development, people.)
apologies if anything is incorrect, I did as much research as possible to make it semi accurate. Socs/Greasers is labels from the outsiders, but I wanted to use them in the story.

October, 1991 I The wrong side of the tracks.
Everyone's heard of it. Everyone knows it exists. It's a place where Luke's never been and never wanted to a day in his life. He's heard many terrible things about people who live there. The stereotypes were terrifying and he's far too rich to even think of walking down those streets unless he wanted to get jumped.
There are two sides to the town Luke lives in and he's lucky enough to be in the very nice, wealthy neighborhood with old neighbors that never leave their house and tons of students from his private school. He was raised there his whole life and a couple years ago, his brothers moved out and started their lives in another city besides Sydney.
Now, the other side is one he forbids going to. It's a grungy neighborhood only known for the gangs and leather-jacket wearing assholes who like to rob from Luke's side. They go to a public school, who are rivals with Luke's private one. The two sides are sworn enemies and while Luke tries to be civil, he must admit that he doesn't like that side of town either. It's filthy, just like most of the people who live there.
And yet, after avoiding this gruesome side of town for practically his whole life, the time has come that he had to face it. Luke isn't this squeaky clean, selfish rich boy. He was actually a decent person. Alas, he did have a few characteristics of every rich kid in NorthHedge and those were mainly him being a little stuck up and that's where things went wrong.
The thing is, Luke isn't popular but he's decently known around town. So when he was invited to a party at Aleisha McDonald's party, he wasn't going to say no. Passing up that opportunity is social suicide and he wasn't going to let everyone at school think he's 'too cool' to hang out with Aleisha. She's a beautiful, golden haired angel and Luke may be gay, but he knows beauty when he sees it.
Luke and his friends, Michael and Calum, arrived at the party that Friday night and were met with loud music, smoking and lots of plaid skirts. The girls on Luke's side of town have been wearing plenty of plaid skirts recently. Though, he can't judge since he is currently wearing a flannel. It was a fashion trend in all the latest magazines. Not that Luke ever reads them.
Okay, he did once because he's tired of Great Expections and stole Miranda Keller's magazine during class. It was hard to hide it behind the small book, but he managed. He secretly just stared at a bunch of pictures of Jason Priestly from Beverly Hills 90210. Not that he ever watched that show. He's a very manly person, okay?
"Luke!" he jumped and was tugged back, heart dropping at the sound of a car speeding past. His friend, Michael, rolled his eyes, "Jesus Christ, watch where you're standing! You were about to be a pancake a second ago!"
"I would've eaten him," Calum confirmed.
Luke made a grim face and shoved his arm from the grip of his friend's hand. "Sorry, I'm just worried right now. My mum thinks I'm at your house studying for the chem test."
