CRIMINALLY YOURS

Tiny.

That's what this room was with its white, plastic, 6x6 tiles covering the floor, dark blue paint coating the walls, and a one way window pane in the center of the north wall. A silver table sits in the middle of this small room, two chairs sitting on the north and south sides of it. I was sitting in this police station's interrogation room with one thought drilling into my head, "What the hell do I do now?"

I'd been sitting here for almost two hours without seeing a single person. The police officer who brought me in here said that someone would be around "in a jiffy" to bring me something to eat and drink. It's been two hours, so if this is what they call being "jiffy" then they need to go back to school and learn their vocabulary words.

Strangely enough, the only thing I was worrying about right now was Avery. She was probably freaking out, but I was hopeful that she wasn't going to do anything stupid. Just as I was about to give up, lay my head on my arms, and try to get a little bit of sleep, the metal door was pushed open. My tired eyes were soon resting on Police Chief Charlie Stanton.

He was reaching his 23rd year of service, balding, and reaching the XXL shirt size. Let's just say that he wasn't the most intimidating person on the force, but he was probably going to be playing the "good cop" role. No cop is a good cop when you've been locked up.

"Hello, Katherine, how are you doing? I hope they haven't been treating you badly." Bingo! I told you he was the "good cop." Stanton pulled out the chair across from me, and sat down in it. I was trying to stop from laughing as I saw the chair was barely big enough for him. Stanton was giving me one of those 'what the hell is wrong with her' looks, as I fought off my oncoming laughter.

Deciding against being bitchy, I put on my normal confused pretty girl act. I carefully began twisting a piece of my bottle-dyed red hair as I began making myself as small as possible.  "Why am I here officer?" I ask biting my bottom lip slightly as I gave him my best puppy dog look. It had worked in the past, so hopefully it would work now.

Stanton let out a long, tired sigh, looking at me with pity. Pity was overrated. Trust me, I would know.

"You and I both know why you're here, Ms. Morgan," Officer Stanton said quietly while opening a manila folder and placing it in front of me. The police officers these days were so predictable. Stanton had just slid my rap sheet in front of me, probably hoping to remind me of what was at stake. Here's the thing, I already knew what to expect. This wasn't my first rodeo.

"Do you at least know what charges are against you, Katherine?" Stanton asked softly. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the girl on the page in front of me. She had long, white blonde hair, her eyes held no emotion, the dark circles under her eyes could tell a story in its own, and her skin was holding onto nothing but bone. I'd come so far from this person in front of me. How did I back track? My eyes took a glance at down to the convictions part of the page.

Katherine Hadasah Morgan: Sentenced to a 6 months' probation and 6 months of community service for illegal drug trafficking and the use of illegal substances..

My stomach was knotting itself up just thinking about the shit I'd done almost two years ago. I could still hear my sister crying for me, my mother and father pleading for me and my sister's lives. The smell of gunpowder has locked itself in my memory, like a bad dream that just won't go away. I'd come so far in such a short time from the person that I had been.

"Katherine, I will not ask again!" Officer Stanton barked, making me realize I'd completely gone into my own world, "I want to know if you know what charges are against you and why?!"
