"Robin! Use your inside voice!" my dad exclamed form the other side of the table, obviously using his outside voice.
I slumped in my chair as Mike and Courtney snickered, "Sorry, Dad. I won't do it again."
And just like that they all went back to their conversations, leaving me with the man who informed me that the devil is a blond. I glared at him causing him to chuckle like there was nothing better in the world then this moment.
I sat and ate my dinner in silence. When I was finnished I looked to my mom and said that I wasn't feeling well, with a hand on my neck. My mom and I both find it really awkward to talk about that time of the month so.... yeah... she gets it. She nodded and excused me from the table. Only if. ONLY IF. I gave Mike a good bye kiss. ONLY if. He grinned and pulled me into the front room, hidden from the rest of the table.
Before I could even argue his lips smacked to mine. His strong arm wrapped around my waist pulling me to him, more like molding us together. I felt myself melting in my shoes. I had forgotten the taste of his lips, the warmth of his skin, the feel of his fingers weaving through my hair. Every cell in my brain was screaming to push him away but every ounce of me yearned for this moment never to stop.
Mike laughed a bit and pulled away slightly. Both of our lips were slightly swolen and loose as we caught our breath. His breath tickled my ear as he whispered, "We have an audience, love." I turned slowly to see Dan's hard stare, both at me and Mike. I could see a faint glimmer of pain illuminating from his deep eyes. My lips moved, attempting to make words. But no air came.
Dan mouth formed a straight line as if to seal his anger on his tounge. He spoke first. Emotion chased away from his tone, "Get your hands off her."
"Hey, Thomson, you don't own her. You have yourself a little slut to play with. I'm here to help her mend a broken heart," Mike paused and gazed down only to glare at Dan once more, "A broken heart that shouldn't have even been broken in the first place."
Mike's arms tightened around me holding me in a hug. I could feel his muscles through his black shirt, firm and shaped, "Mike..." Dan looked at me stern as if I was a little kid playing in a match store. His ocean eyes were full of pain as they gazed through me.
"Dan Honey!" a squeeking voice ran through the house, "Do you want to go to a movie or something?" The menice slowly but lowdly click clacked into the room. She looked straight at me and smiled a Chesire smile, "Sorry to interupt."
I gathered every ounce of my courage to say what my mind was screaming for me to tell him, "Mike's right, Dan. Why should it even matter to you, my personal affairs. You've got a personal affair of your own that I have no right in messing with."
Dan looked broken but his girlfriend wrapped her arms around him and pulled him out of the room.
I continued to stare where he had just stood, sure that sometime, some how, he would appear again. Right in that exact spot. If I could take back one sentence of my entire life it would be that one. I wish I never said that but... what else could I have said? It's not what it looks like! It was what it looked like. And for Peet's sake! He has a girlfriend, god damn it! And she's not me. It shouldn't matter at all what I did to him. I don't have to give excuses.
And I'm not making any to myself either.
I have to move on.
Mike called me back from my wandering state, "Did you really mean what you just said?" I turned back to him and looked right into his eyes.
They were so pure, so rich. But so untruthful, "Y-yes."
His fingers lifted to brush a piece of hair out of my eyes. His touch made my entire body explode in heat, "So does that mean I get a second chance?"
My breath bubbled in my through. I didn't know what to say! But my body already knew what to do. I crashed my lips to his as if my life depended on it. Mike grabbed a fist full of my hair and pulled me closer. Electricity shot though me making me weak, relaying on him to hold me up. When he broke the kiss a giant grin stretched across his face, "I'm going to take that as a yes," he pressed his forehead to mine making my cheeks flush, "You're really cute when your embarrassed," his soft lips pressed lightly to my nose making my reddening worse.
I flopped down on to my bed repeating tonights events. No matter how many times I thought it through there was no good reason for me to say-or in this case do that.
But one thing was clear,
I'm really going to regret this.
