I wake up to the sound of my alarm. I roll over and turn it off. I lie on my back and stare up at the posters of Kellin Quinn, Brendon Urie and so many others. Did that actually happen? Or did I dream it? Were the questions running through my head. It just seemed surreal as if from a movie.
A while later I get out of bed and get changed into the normal black jeans, baggy t-shirt and a hoody. Once changed I clump downstairs into the kitchen. My mums sitting at the table with her laptop open and talking on the phone. Like always she doesn’t acknowledge I’m there. I rummage through the cupboards. Trying to find something appealing to eat. But I’m in too much of a daze to really focus on what I’m doing. It takes me a while to realise my mums talking to me. “… And don’t be late for school! You got all that?”
“Huh?” Is all I reply in my daze. My mum sighs and starts repeating herself.
“I said any dishes you dirty wash them up after. Tidy your room, put your dirty clothes in the wash. Once you get back from school hang your clothes out to dry. And DON’T be late for school!”
“Mhmm. Okay.” Is all I say back. But my mum is already back on the phone.
“Hi. Sorry. I was just talking to my… um… my… someone.” Most the time she pretends I don’t even exist. I trudge back upstairs and back into my room. My bag is already ready for school, so I pull on my boots and head back down the stairs and out onto the chilly streets outside.
I pull my hoody tighter around me hoping to warm up. A shiver runs down my spine. Chilling me inside I take a step onto the cold winter street. I must have been walking for almost 5 minutes when I turn down an alley and freeze. Right in front of me Mark, Chris and Jess stand waiting. Mark was leaning against the wall hood up and head down his ginger fringe falling over his face. He was about a head taller than Jess. Jess was standing next to Mark her long blonde hair falling perfectly. She had her usual ‘popular’ style make-up and clothes on. She was about 5’2. And of course she was one of the popular kids. And then there’s Chris, his long blonde hair covering his blue eyes. Chris is the bad boy in the school. He was perched on a bin and his head was looking to the ground. His hood covering his face. Chris began speaking without even looking at me. “Well, well, well.” He didn’t move. “The murderer has finally arrived.” He turned his head to look at me. He had a grimace plastered on his face. “For a minute I thought you had taken our hint.” His words hurt. I don’t know why. Maybe cause I thought he had been my friend.
“Y…you thought wrong.” My voice cracked while I spoke.
“What a shame.” Chris said as he jumped down from the bin. He still wore a grimace.
“We all would be happy if the freak wasn’t here.” Jess spoke while walking towards me along with everyone else. I started backing up but soon bumped into a wall, I was cornered. I went to shout for help but it was too late. Suddenly I was in searing agony as I was thrown back into the wall. I fell to the floor, stunned. Kicks were coming in from all directions. I tried to cover my face but it wasn’t much protection. I could feel the pain from every kick that I was receiving, and warmth from where my blood was spilling out of open wounds. I gave up trying to protect myself I just lay there in tears while they beat me up.
“C’mon that’s enough… For today.” It was Mark speaking. I rolled onto my hands and knees. My head was down. Chris kicked me hard in the stomach, I doubled over and spat out some blood from the impact of the kick.
“Go kill yourself you emo freak!” Chris said bitterly. And he turned and walked away with his friends.
I tried getting up but everything blurred and I collapsed back down, drops of blood were dripping out my mouth. I tried to get up again but my legs gave way. I fell backwards and hit my head against the wall. I blacked out…

My vision blurred in and out while I tried to focus on the ceiling above. Just by the smell of bleach and other cleaning products, I knew I was in a hospital. I couldn’t remember how I got here or the reason I was here. All I remember is walking to school, a lot of pain, and then I woke up here. I looked about the room I was in and noticed a note was sitting on the bedside table. I reached across and picked it up and began to read.
Katie.
I got a call from your school saying you hadn’t arrived. I then got a phone call from the hospital saying you had been found unconscious in an alley. And that I need to go in to the hospital and sign some forms. I have missed a very important meeting with the president of the company all because of you! Plus you didn’t do any of the jobs you we’re supposed to do. I work my arse off for you, you stupid brat! I will deal with you when you get out the stupid hospital1 I would of put you up for adoption ages ago if it hadn’t been for that stupid man! Luckily he passed away so I can do as I please with you. Chris, Jess, and Mark came around asking for you.
At the sight of their names it all came flooding back to me. The pain. The joy in their eyes at the sight of me covered in blood and dirt, crying in pain as they kicked me as much as they could. Tears started rolling down my face. The nurse walks in to see me gripping a note crying. I try to hide the note but the nurse was too quick. She snatches the note from my hand. I just sit there shaking and crying as she reads the note. “I’ll deal with this.” Is all she says as she turns and walks out the open door shutting it behind her before I can even begin to protest.
