It was a beautiful day, but then it always was on Saint Marie. The sun shone fiercely. A light breeze was blowing. Boats bobbed cheerily in the water as the sea shimmered a deep turquoise. The scene was crowded by a rainbow of colours and sea birds soared gracefully, oblivious as to what was going on down below.
Florence looked down upon the scene as she gripped the railing tightly. She didn't hear the commotion behind her as Frances was taken off. She didn't feel the burning sun on her back. She didn't see the beautiful waves in the bay below. Silent tears streamed down her face as she tried her best to control the shaking of her shoulders. She never could have imagined this. Her wedding day...
Florence didn't turn as she sensed a figure who she assumed to be Jack Humphrey walked up to stand beside her. He didn't speak and for that she was thankful. He only offered the reassurance that he was there for her. Florence was grateful to have the DI with her. That time she spent in the hospital after waking up had been the loneliest time of her life and his presence reminded her that despite having lost so much, this place meant the world to her.
How could she ever leave?
"Florence." He spoke at last. "I know you'll make it. You're strong like that, but..." Jack trailed off and Florence looked up at him.
"Well, me and the team. We can afford to give you a break if you need one. We can manage."
Florence nodded thoughtfully and wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Thank you sir but I don't need that. Lying there in hospital with nothing but my thoughts... I need a distraction." She looked down and Jack nodded slowly
"I understand. I've been there and I know it can help, but Florence please promise me something." He waited until she lifted her eyes to meet his. "Remember we're here for you. Me, Ruby, JP, Catherine – even the commissioner. Never forget that. We can always help."
Florence felt fresh tears forming as she studied his concerned face. "Thank you sir."
Leaning against the railing, she let her head fall into her hands as tears began to rack her body. Jack reached out an arm and pulled Florence into a hug as she the realisation of what had happened to her finally set in.
Jack Moony's face crumpled slightly as he watched his close friend overwhelmed with grief. It wad then that he promised himself that he would see Florence would be happy again no matter what. However long it took, he would be there for her every step.
**This was meant as an introductory chapter so I will make future ones longer. Obviously, this story will focus around Florence and how she recovers from losing Patrice. I will take ideas from future episodes but now that Florence is staying, the majority of the story line will be original.
Also, if anybody actually reads this I would be grateful if you could add your opinions so I could improve my writing. Suggestions for better chapter names would be much appreciated. Thank you.
