"d-dad?" I called in a loud whisper.

he grunted, struggling with something- or someone. "stay there sweetie!"

he yelled in pain. "dad! are you okay?"

no reply.

my heart began thrumming against my chest. "dad?"

a groan.

"I-I'm coming down!"

I crept down the steps as softly as I could; if there was a bear in the house, I didn't want to startle it.,

I got to the bottom step and held my breath. there was blood spattered all over the wall, making the picture of my parents and I hard to see.

"dad," I called in a harsh whisper. "please, answer me."

a groan from the living room.

I gulped- what if he was dead?

I looked around the hallway, looking for a weapon of some sort.

seeing none, I decided to sneak through the kitchen so I could grab a knife.

I crept quietly down the hallway, grateful for our fairly new house; none of the floor boards were old enough to creak yet.

I got to the kitchen and took in the scene; more blood spattered on the floor, the door hanging open, scratches covering the outside. it was horrific.

I quickly grabbed the biggest knife I could find and held it in front of me, ready for whatever was in the living room.

I grabbed the flashlight off the table as I crept by it- the power had been out for days, all over Georgia. no one knew what was going on, just that military was working to restore the power.

I got into the living room and was greeted by a great stench and immense darkness.

I flicked on the flashlight.

a man was kneeling beside my father, blood dripping from his mouth.

he reached inside of my fathers stomach.

I screamed.

he turned around, hissing at me. he stood shakily, then began limping toward me. my heart was in my throat- what do I do?

I couldn't kill this man, I just couldn't.

he reached a bloody hand towards me, and I began stepping backwards.

until I hit the wall.

he lunged at me, but I sidestepped. he smacked the wall with a loud thud, but was unfazed.

what was wrong with him?

I began shaking vigorously as he looked at me, his teeth caked with dried blood- had he eaten others, too?

I lunged forward, plunging the knife into his upper abdomen.

but he kept going.

"what the heck?!" I screamed.

I jumped out of the way as he tried to grab me again, but he managed to grip my ankle.

I kicked at his face, screaming, "let me go, you crazy- thing!"

he just kept pulling at me.

once he pulled me close enough, I kicked his nose as hard as I possibly could, smashing through his skull and crushing his brain.

he fell limp.

I pushed myself away, whimpering. I shone the flashlight on my dad.

there was no way he was going to make it. his rib cage was ripped wide open, and some of his guts had been pulled out.

I threw up.

I puked and puked, until I was sure my supper and breakfast had both made a reappearance.

I stood up shakily and walked back to the kitchen. I grabbed the next biggest knife I could find, since the other one was stuck in that man's chest.

I wiped my mouth on my sleeve. I would have to go next door, to the Browns' house. they could help me; Jake was a sherif, after all.

I went out the backdoor, tiptoeing down the steps. I wasn't sure if there were anymore of those things, but I didn't know there weren't, either.

I got to their front door, and seen Dorris looking distressed as ever. had Cameron been attacked?

I knocked hesitantly, hoping she would hear me.

the door flew open. "who- oh my god!" Dorris cried, seeing my bloody appearance.

"help me," I said weakly.

then, I broke down crying, the weight of the night finally hitting me.

so, my first ever chapter. in my first ever story. er, fanfic.

anyway, tell me how I did! I'm kind of proud of it, but that might be just me.

this will probably not come near the actual show/comics, so I wouldn't have high expectations.

thanks for reading!
