The days went by so quickly that Leon woke up one morning and realised he'd been in the Urie household for two whole weeks. He wasn't stuttering as much as he used to around Brendon and Sarah, and was generally more relaxed than he'd ever been. He even toyed with the idea of asking if he could call them 'Mom' and 'Dad', but it seemed forced to him when he practiced in front of the bathroom mirror, so he decided to wait until later, when he knew them better.
One thing that still made him nervous was thinking about telling Brendon's fans about the adoption. He knew not all of them would be pleased, and dreaded their response. What if they all saw that he wasn't worthy of the care Brendon and Sarah were giving him? Despite this, he felt like they would have to tell everyone at some point. On Saturday, exactly two weeks after he had been adopted, Leon approached Brendon and Sarah about it.
They immediately agreed that they could announce it, that very day, if Leon liked.
Better get over with it, Leon thought, and said so.
“I was gonna do a Twitch live today, anyway,” Brendon said. “Do you think you're okay going live?”
“... sure,” Leon said, after thinking for a moment. “Okay.”
Brendon nodded, smiling. “Sounds good, kiddo. They'll love you,” he added.
“I hope,” Leon grinned, a little nervously.
“How could they not?” Sarah had been chopping vegetables for lunch, and now she ruffled Leon's hair gently as she walked past.
Leon didn't even jump anymore when Brendon or Sarah touched his head or shoulders. That was a change in itself.
When the time came for Brendon to start the Instagram live show, Leon was pretty nervous. Brendon tweeted beforehand: “Come hang on Twitch with a special guest in 20 minutes my vros.”
“What is a vro?” Leon asked curiously, looking over Brendon's shoulder.
Brendon chuckled. “My friend Jake, coined the term. It's like bro only non-gender-specific.”
  “Huh, okay,” Leon said.
Leon tried to keep his heart rate in check as the minutes ticked by. “Do you want me to tell them your social media at's?” Brendon asked, five minutes before he started the show.
“Sure, but maybe just Twitter and Instagram...” Leon replied, tapping his foot.
“Okay, sounds good,” Brendon put a heartening hand on Leon's shoulder. “You got this, kiddo.”
  Leon smiled up at him.
Then it was time. Brendon had set up a second chair at his gaming/streaming computer for Leon to sit in, and now he pressed a few keys  and clicked his tongue as he waited for people to arrive.
And arrive they did. The count of watchers skyrocketed before their eyes, and Brendon grinned. “Hey, everyone. Hey, my vros. What's up?”
Leon was out of frame. They'd agreed that Brendon would talk to the fans a while first, until Leon felt ready to show is face. In reality, Leon wasn't sure if he ever would feel ready for that.
“‘Who's the special person?’” Brendon read from the chat. “Be patient, I'm getting to that.” He chuckled. “Whoa, you guys really wanna know, don't you? ‘Tell us!!!’” He imitated a Valley Girl voice. “Yes, yes, okay, guys. We're getting to that part. ‘Hi, it's Ellie from two weeks ago,’ Hi Ellie from two weeks ago.” Brendon waved. He leaned back in his chair and looked over at Leon. “Ready?” He asked quietly.
 Leon nodded.
“Okay.” Brendon cleared his throat. “So basically, Sarah and I adopted.” He paused and take that sink in. “Yeah! We adopted a handsome young man by the name of Leon. Say hi, Leon.”
Leon scooted into the frame. “Hi, guys.” He said timidly.
“He's been with us for about two weeks, now. How cool is that?” Brendon chuckled, ruffling Leon's hair affectionately.
Most of the comments were sweet and supportive, asking how old Leon was, whether he was a fan or not. Almost all the rest of the comments were along the lines of, ‘HOLY FUCKING SHIT IS THIS A FANFICTION I CANT BELIEVE IT I StAN!’
“I'm thirteen,” Leon said, glancing at Brendon for encouragement. “Um, I actually have had A Fever You Can't Sweat Out on CD, but I was never, like, in the fandom.”
“He's got a great music taste. Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, some jazz, some Frank Iero...” Brendon listed. “‘Do you have social media?’ Someone asked. You wanna tell them your usernames?”
“Yeah, um, twitter is LeonIsLeon, and Instagram is the same. I don't have any Insta posts yet,” Leon admitted sheepishly. “But if you wanna tweet me some music suggestions, I'm down for-” he faltered, reading a comment in the chat. ‘You're not a boy.’
Brendon had seen it too. He frowned. “Hey, shut the fuck up. He is a boy.” He told the person who had commented.
Leon bit his lip and glanced at Brendon with a grateful half-smile.
“Anyone else who has that view, you can get the hell out of here. Got that?” Brendon continued. Then he sat back, exhaling. “Anyway, sorry for interrupting.”
Leon cleared his throat and shrugged. “It's okay. I don't remember what I was gonna say.”
“Well, I guess you all know Leon now. Hopefully you'll all treat him with the respect he deserves.”
Leon smiled and waved goodbye silently as Brendon talked, and left the frame. He sat down opposite Brendon at the table, and gave him a thumbs up to tell him that it was all good. Brendon smiled gently.
They went out to dinner that night. Leon wore the nice button-down shirt he'd gotten with Sarah and skinny jeans, and his Doc Martens. He felt good in his skin for once. They met Brendon and Sarah's friend, Spencer, at the restaurant. Leon by now knew that Spencer had been in Panic! At The Disco, and he was excited to meet him.
Spencer was super sweet, and gave Leon a hug, telling him, “Welcome to the Panic family.”
Leon grinned and replied earnestly, “Thank you!"
The table they were at was a loud, happy one, although Leon mostly just listened as Spencer and Brendon cracked jokes and told stories. He was surprised and amused about the dynamic of the two, despite not being in the same band anymore.
After a while, Spencer started asking Leon some questions, just easy things that Leon didn't find intrusive. Leon even hesitantly pulled out his sketchbook, and, as the three adults waited with bated breath, opened it to the page that he'd been filling with little sketches of his new parents. In the upper left corner of the right page was Sarah's eye in the middle of a flower, like Brendon's tattoo.
“That's beautiful,” Sarah told him with wide eyes, running a finger over the texture of the paper where the ballpoint pen had left marks in it. “You're very talented.”
Leon blushed deeply, muttering something like, “It's just a sketch...”
Brendon smiled as he took in the two-page mini mural. “Wow. This is amazing, Leon. You managed to capture Sarah's beauty on paper!”
Sarah laughed at this, gently shoved her husband's shoulder.
“Can I show Spence?” Brendon asked.
“Sure...” Leon replied, because even though he didn't really know Spencer yet, he trusted him already.
Spencer reacted to it like Leon's parents had; complimenting his talents and saying the drawing was fantastic.
Leon blushed, but couldn't stop smiling. He'd never taken Mrs. Hank's word for it when she'd said he was good at drawing, but he already loved and trusted these people much more than he'd trusted Mrs. Hank.
On their way out of the restaurant, someone recognised them. A girl with short black hair and someone who was probably her boyfriend came up to them, the girl saying, “Hi, Brendon! Hi, Leon. Hi guys,” her voice was high-pitched and excited. “We just wanted to say that we're so glad you're part of the Urie family now, Leon! The fandom loves you already,” she grinned.
“Whoa- thanks,” Leon replied nervously. “That means a lot to me.”
The girl smiled and then said to Brendon, “And I love your music so, so much!”
After they had taken pictures, and the girl and her boyfriend had said goodbye, Brendon slung an arm around Leon's shoulders and said, “See? They love you.”
Leon grinned up at him happily.
