August 29 2018, today is the first day of school for the teenagers of beacon hills high. This meant a lot of different things for many different people. For students like Lydia Martin, they were stressed over the style of curl to put in their hair because you could only have your first day of junior year once and it needed to be perfect. For students like Liam Dunbar (and most of the underclass man) they had practiced lacrosse in their backyards all summer and were ready to go back to practice and try to make varsity. For students like Stiles Stilinski, today was the first day back to school of the hardest year of high school, junior year. For the occasional student like Scott McCall, it was the first day back in a crowd and he had to relearn how to keep his secrets safe. And for students like the one this story revolves around, Riley Thomas, it was the first day to figure out what in the world happened freshman year.
Riley's mom had made her get back into the school routine about a week before school had started, so as the girls alarm of "Pocket Full of Sunshine" echos throughout her room she was ready to start her day. She recurled pieces of her hair that went straight overnight. Picked out a short light pink sundress that she paired with a white jean jacket and white Air Force 1's. Her look was complete, among all the other things she has on her mind, it was still the first day and first impressions are always important.
She rehearsed her schedule in her head so that she wouldn't do the embarrassing mistake of walking in to the wrong classroom.
Period 1: Algebra
Period 2: Art
Period 3: US History
Period 4: AP Bio
Lunch
Period 5: English
Period 6: PEShe had a typical sophomore schedule except for AP bio mostly juniors took the class but she wanted to be a vet so her mom pushed her to take the class. The teacher Mrs. Finch was known for being strict and constantly handing out drop request forms. Riley was extremely nervous about the class because it was a junior and senior class and she was only friends with a few juniors and seniors because of Volleyball, but for the most part she was not comfortable with any of them. Possible scenarios ran through her head of possibility sitting next to the school's queen bee, Lydia Martin, and becoming best friends with her. Her mother yelling, "Bus is here!!" Knocked her out of her daydreams and she ran downstairs. Her mom took one quick picture of her as tradition. And she quickly ran out to the street to get on the bus.
As she boarded the bus she was reminded of one of the phenomenons of last year, her bus driver, Mr. Myers, was attacked on the school bus and past away last year. He was such a sweet man, he always told Riley that she reminded him of his daughter when she was younger and he would wait for her if she was late. Not many people even remember his death, because of all the craziness that took place last year between kids being places in insane asylums, strange wolf appearances, and so many deaths in their no name town of Beacon Hills.
She boarded the bus and sat in a window seat by herself and put in her headphones listening to music on the way to school.
When she arrived at school she met up with some of her best friends Vanessa, Elizabeth, and Kylie. They had all exchanged schedules in the group chat and knew what classes they had with each other. Elizabeth, who they all called Eli, had even switched her elective from art to Spanish to be in the same lunch with the rest of the group. They all headed to the begging of the year pep rally together. After the girls split up and headed to their own classes for the rest of the day. Most classes consisted of catching up with people they hadn't seen much of over the summer and instructions to the new classes, except for AP Bio. Kylie dropped off Riley at the door of the class and said, "Good luck Ry, don't drop out your first week you need to find me a cute senior boy." Riley laughed and rolled her eyes pushing Kylie towards her next class. When she entered the classroom she saw everyone looking up at the board where a seating chart was being projected. She found her seat three rows back and was met with brown eyes and a sweet smile she had only seen from afar, "Hi, I'm Scott."
