Waking up to the alarm on my phone at 5:45 every week day and Saturday morning had sort of become a habit to me in the last two and a half years. People continued to ask me how I could possibly love a job that makes me get up that early every day just to sit in front of a computer all day editing books written by aspiring authors. The answer: because I love what I do.
Ever since I was a little girl, I had always wanted to be a publisher. I wanted to help otherpeople achieve their dreams creating books to entertain people all over the world. It was great hearing so many new ideas for books come through my office day in and day out. As the assistant to the head of our department, I often found myself reading manuscripts for hours on end, editing whatever didn't fit and whatever was written incorrectly.
My boss, Ms. Emily Wright, was a gorgeous caucasion woman. Her build was thin but athletic, her long flowing brown hair would dangle just past her waistline when she left it completely down, and her eyes... well, don't even get me started on what they do to me. Most of the time I feel like she can see right past them and into the very depths of my soul.
Although I had worked here two and a half years, she hadn't been my boss in the beginning. The last boss I had, he quite frankly treated me like dirt and never was satisfied with the work I did, even when I would exceed his expectations.
Emily is the opposite of everything he was. Her tattoos seemed so out of place on her flawless skin, the freckles across her face just below her hazel-emerald eyes made her almost seem childlike. Every tattoo she had etched into her flesh, it made me wonder if she was trying to tell a story with them, or if she had simply gotten them becaue she enjoyed looking at them.
Her right arm was completely covered from shoulder to wrist in colorful ink, half of the pictures I had a hard time making out what they were. on her opposite wrist though, she had a tattoo of a stack of books, the top one left open. Just above that she had a quote, one I only knew was there because I asked her about it during one our many late nights in the office. In small letters just above the open book, it said "When something goes wrong, don't close the book, turn the page and continue."
I had seen a similar quote when looking for my tattoo ideas. I had a very similar tattoo, except mine didn't have that quote, and was on the back of my neck.
Today was only Wednesday and already it had been a particularly rough week at the office. There was just so much stress from the extra work we had recieved this week, and there were a lot of meetings which meant less time to do paperwork and getting through editing manuscripts, and more late nights filled with coffee, only running off of three hours of sleep. I had decided this week would be a good week to bring coffee to my boss. She seemed extra stressed and there wasn't much else I could do.
I left the house in a slightly more revealing outfit that usual this morning. I had a white lace bra that was pretty sheer, and I wore a white button-up blouse, the top two buttons open and hinting at my double D's underneath. My black pencil skirt had just barely covered my ass, and my black pumps just seemed a little more casual that professional today.
She, on the other hand, was dressed in black like always. I could tell she was wearing a black strapless even from behind, because her shirt was just sheer enough that I could see it, and a black tank top that didn't cover much of the bra. Her black, knee-length skirt looked amazing over her plump ass I couldn't help but bite my lip. I had to look at it all day and try not imagining what those clothes would look like on my office floor.
Around 4:45 that evening, I was working on editing a manuscript for an up and coming author, when she had knocked on my door. The door was open so I think she was just trying to get my attention so she didn't startle me. I finished the sentence I was on, which didn't take long at all, and I hit save before I looked up. "Yes, Emily?"
