"Always listen to your heart, because even though it's on your left side, it's always right." - Nicholas Sparks

———

The clicks I produced by my fork, onto the plate lingered in the room. The silence was just left around the table since I didn't even choose to look at the person my parents chose for me as my fiancé.

"Christopher, please don't be rude to this young lady. She has chosen to see you. Isn't that wonderful?" My mother asked with her fake, peppy tone.

"Mhm.." I still didn't look up from my plate. My medium cooked steak was left untouched since I wasn't hungry at all.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," my supposed 'date' said with what seemed to be a fake, polite tone.

I felt her arms snake around my left arm as that got my attention and I looked up annoyed. "Can you please not touch me?" I snapped and got out of her embrace.

"Christopher! Don't be rude! I am so sorry. He is just so hard to get around." My mother sighed while giving me a look in the corner of my eye.

Am I not allowed to have my own personal space?

"It's alright Mrs. Addington. I'm sure he's just shy."

I saw the smile on her face the whole time mom and she talked. My father, on the other hand, was just eating his food. Probably really disappointed in me.

"Did you hear honey? Penny over here has accomplished so much! She won many competitions in fashion designing and is soon to be the heir of her mother's company. Isn't that lovely dear?" My mom asked me, full of excitement.

I never understood why my parents always thought that being gay was just a phase I was going through. It never occurred to them that it wasn't my choice and I wasn't interested in girls.

"Chris!"

I looked over to my mom, who seemed enraged in me for not having a conversation with Penny. My mom thought she was lovely and decided to pick her to be a potential spouse for me. It sickened me that my own mother was trying to get me to marry someone of her choice.

What she didn't understand was that maybe my heart was already taken by someone else.

Someone who's very flirty, interesting and very affectionate. Someone I thought I would never fall for.

Penny has platinum blonde hair that was down in a braid with light blue eyes that matched her dress that she was wearing.

At first sight, many people would think she's remarkable, polite and very kind but to me, nothing about her attracted me at all. I could see through her fake act in an instant.

"I'll leave you two lovebirds alone then," my mom said and hurried out the door with my dad, who seemed to not be finished with his food. "Have fun you two!"

I was about to say something but just stayed quiet and seated.

I groaned silently, not wanting to be alone with her. Who knows what she's going to do?

"So, tell me a little about yourself. You seem quite shy to want to approach me," she said with a smile while putting two fingers under my chin. I felt chills by her cold fingers and my eyes turned towards her slowly. Her sharp, cold eyes staring into mine.

"I'm going to be honest here. I think you're quite annoying."

"Hmm. Well, try to think of more insults dear. It's not quite going to be easy getting rid of me," she said and gave me a wink.
