it is my first day at the B.P.R.D. professor broom found me living alone in my cabin in the woods. he thought it would be best for me to come back with him, i reluctantly agreed because he told me there were others like me. as we go down an elevator professor broom turns to me.
professor broom: so annistyn the is the B.P.R.D, this will be your new home.
i nod my head as my long black hair falls in my eyes.
professor broom: the people you will meet here are going to watch over you and be your family.
the elevator comes to a stop and i step off following close behind him. we come to these huge gold doors and professor broom opens them. i slowly follow behind him surprised to see its a giant library. as i look around i notice 4 books each on a stand. i slowly step closer and thats when i notice the giant tank. i dont see anything in it so i wonder towards the books on the shelves.
professor broom: well annistyn i have some business to attend to so i will have to leave you here if you dont mind?
i turn to him and shake my head no. he gives me a light smile before walking back out the door. i wonder slowly as i look around at everything taking it all in. its nice to not be alone for once in my life. as i am looking at books i cant help but feel like i am being watched. i turn around to look at the tank and see the glimps of something in the tank but im not sure what it is. i shrug my shoulders and wander back over there. i pass between 2 of the stands and lightly touch the glass. thats when a man, creature of some sort pops up in front of me inside the tank. i jump back and end up on the floor.
man: i do apologize for scaring you. i didnt mean to. are you alright?
i scoot back a little more as he puts his hand to the glass. i try to stay calm but jump again as i hear the doors open i turn to see the professor again. he walks over to me and slowly helps me stand.
professor broom: i do apologize this is abe. abe this is annistyn.
i step behind the professor slightly still scared of this fish man.
abe: it is extremely nice to meet you.
abe disappears so i slowly step close to the tank again to look around but he is nowhere to be found. i hear something from the far side of the library so i turn to see abe standing there in nothing but swim shorts. i step behind the professor again unsure of abe or what is going on. as abe gets closer i notice the different shades of blue to his skin. i cant help but stare as he gets closer and closer.
professor broom: so abe what did you find out about our newest agent?
abe: nothing. i cant read her at all.
he steps closer and i see his hands are webbed.
abe: may i?
he reaches out his and towards me but i am reluctant, the professor lightly touches my hand and nods telling me it is safe so i slowly move my hand towards him. abe gently takes my hand in both of his and just stands there.
abe: professor this is very strange im not really getting anything just bits and pieces of things.
professor broom: very interesting, abe mind getting your apperattice and walk with us?
abe nods his head as he walks back in the direction he came from.
professor broom: you know annistyn, you can speak if you so choose. no one will hurt you here.
i shake my head no trying to tell him i am unable to speak but he just smiles at me. i sigh as abe walks back towards us. as we are walking out abe walks next to me.
abe: do you speak?
i shake my head no.
abe: are you a mute?
i shake my head no again and i lightly touch my throat.
abe: i see. so something happened to make it to where you couldent speak?
i nod my head yes some what relieved that someone finally understands why i cant talk. as i follow behind professor broom i watch as abe glances at me now and again. we walk down a long hall towards a giant door. i am not sure how to feel about all this yet. i gently touch the cristyal that hangs around my neck. and i try to stay calm as the door slowly opens. i walk behind abe and professor broom and thats when i see him.
abe: red this is annistyn she is new here.
i step behind abe as the one he called red looks me over slowly.
red: she is kind of small dont ya think?
professor broom: hellboy i expect you to make her feel at home.
red: yes father.
i step behind abe and gently put my hand on his back trying my best to hide. at the same time i touch my crystal to try to make sure i stay calm. as i am i close my eyes and its like abe and i instantly form a connection because he gets let into my mind. i jump back and dont know what to think about what just happened. i back away slowly because no one is supposed to be let into my head. i slowly back away as he turns to slowly look at me i can see the shock in his eyes from what he seen when he was in my head. i want to run but i cant there is a pulling in my chest keeping me close to him. i hide professor broom to try to keep all eyes off me.
abe: professor i should go back to my room soon i have research to do...
professor broom: yes of course abe i will show annistyn to her room she will be in the room next to yours abe so if she needs anything please make her feel welcome.
abe nods and walks off as an alarm starts to go off and i cover my ears from the noise.
red: its a level 5 according to the radio think pipsqueak there can handle a misson with us?
professor broom: yes i believe that will be good for her to get out with the team to learn how it works better.
with that professor broom disapears back down the hall and abe comes walking back im assuming waiting for red but he gently takes my hand and pulls me behind him. i am not sure what to do so i just stay close to abe the best i can. we get into the back of a truck i sit next to abe as he looks through a book. i start to shiver a little because im not sure how i will be of any help, abe notices and lightly touches my hand to try to calm me.
abe: what was it that you did earlier when i was able to see into your mind and everything about you?
i lightly touch my crystal and he touches my other hand.
annistyn internal: i can speak this way. but when i touch my crystal it allows me to bond with one person once i am bonded i cant be unbonded, you are the only one that will be able to hear me though touch.
abe: but you cant speak any other way?
i shake my head no as i look down.
the truck comes to a stop out of nowhere and i cant help but to jump because im not sure what is going on. abe gently touches my hand and gives me a reassuring smile.
abe: we just arrived at the location of the incident. i do want you to stay close to me because i dont want anything to happen to you.
i turn to look at him but the door opens before we can do anything . i do as i am told and stay close to abe as we make our way into the building.
