My heart pounded as I walked over to the desk next to his, and the room went silent.

All eyes watched as I sat down, turned to him, and waved politely.

He didn't look up from his textbook, not even sparing me a nod, or a movement, to acknowledge my presence.

This shattered my confidence a little, and I nervously laughed it off.

A few students felt sorry for me, saying stuff like, "That student's weird, maaan... Never talks to anyone. Don't take it to heart, okay?"

And the day went on that way, with me sitting all alone.

Some students stopped at my desk, starting up small conversations before moving on, but that was it.
