Janes pov

After our little fun we took a shower which led to a bit more fun. I completely forgot about Casey’s death only to be reminded when Maura started getting dressed in black. “Maura why are you changing into all black?” I asked pure curiosity ignited.

“You don’t remember?” She replied and that’s when it hit me like a ton of bricks. Casey’s dead. I began to weep again and fell onto the bed while Maura ran over and comforted me. “Why me Maura? Why me?” I asked weeping into her chest as she pulled me closer to her. “I don’t know Jane. I don’t know” She replied softly. I quieted down and slowly began to get changed for his funeral. Maura kept an eye on me whilst she got changed. After changing we went to a café because I had no food in my apartment.

Even after breakfast I wasn’t ready to see him put into the ground but with all the strength I had left we went to his funeral. It was a military ceremony and I got the flag and too many tears. Everyone there kept coming up to me and saying “sorry for your loss” or “He was a great man you were lucky to have him” it drove me insane I just wanted to go home and hide away from everyone apart from Maura. Maura was next to me the entire funeral it was reassuring and comforting that she was there. When we got to the reception which was held at Maura’s house I went to her bedroom and just laid on her bed feeling numb and lost. She found me a few minutes later and laid next to me taking my hand in hers. “Jane, I know you feel numb right now but you should really eat something” She said softly to me sitting up and looking down at me. I nodded and sat up next to her. “Thank you for being here Maura” I said looking into her eyes and pecking her lips quickly before getting up and walking back down to the crowd with Maura right behind me. Looking around when I came down stairs everyone was talking about Casey and the boys began talking about the Red Sox game last night. It was comforting to have a different topic other than Casey and how in was coping. Walking over I joined in the conversation and began relaxing around the boy’s putting Casey’s death a bit further behind me. I relaxed and was becoming more like the old carefree Jane. Maura came over with food and offered me some she seemed happy to see me relax and become care free with the boys. “It’s good to see you relax Jane” She says to me smiling. “Thank you” I say back smiling at her. “Why are you thanking me Jane?” She asks but I just smile and pull her in for a hug taking her by surprise but she relaxes and hugs me back. “you don’t realise how much I want to kiss you right now” I whisper to her as I pull away from the hug. She smiles at me and grabs my hand pulling me outside.

When we get outside no-one is around so we kiss. When we pull away we’re both breathless and needing more but can’t because we’re with family and friends who don’t know about us. We smile and she kisses me sweetly again and I relax around her, leaving my negative thoughts in the house. “Thank you for all this Maura I don’t think I would be able to cope without you” I said leaving my hands on her perfect hips and her arms around my neck. “Your welcome Janie but do try relaxing more please for mine and Casey’s sake” She whispered back giving me a small peck on the lips. I smiled and she noticed I was relaxing so she kissed me again. “Thank you” She whispered against my lips, kissing me once more. We walked back inside smiling forgetting everything and just focusing on each other’s needs in that moment. We were brought back to earth when Frankie called me and pulled me upstairs leaving Maura to mingle with everyone down stairs.

Frankie pulled me into Maura’s room and shut the door. “What do you want Frankie?” I asked as polite as my temper would let me. “What’s going on with you and Maura I just saw you two outside kissing. What’s going on Jane?” He asked clearly annoyed at me for kissing Maura. “You spied on me!!!” I yelled at him trying not to grab any attention from unwanted eavesdroppers. “No I didn’t spy on you I was about to ask you something when you two went outside so I followed to ask you and saw you kissing her.” I didn’t know what to say to him I know he likes Maura and well I can’t blame him but I was speechless. “Frankie it’s none of your business. what happened outside wasn’t for you to see. Ok?” Frankie nodded. “ok now we have that settled can you not tell anyone about what happened please for mine and Maura’s sake?” He nodded and Maura entered the room with a very confused look on her face looking back and forth. “oh and Frankie for your information we are together but don’t say a thing to anyone please” he nodded again and left the room as Maura came over and hugged me. “Are you ok?” She asked actually concerned for me. I smiled and nodded at her and we stood there in a peaceful embrace just as content as if we were in our own little world again.
