The Sorting

Parvati watched with baited breath as her sister was sorted. The hat was taking its time, and though she couldn't see her Padma's face, Parvati imagined that she would be incredibly nervous. She hoped that her sister was placed in Ravenclaw, so then she, Padma and Lavender, a girl she had met on the train and quickly become friends with, could be in the same house, and dormitory.

Parvati was so lost in her thoughts that she barely hd time to turn and watch as the hat's brim opened wide and it bellowed: "Ravenclaw!"

Parvati's heart sank. Now it was her turn and she was shaking so violently that she found it very difficult to walk to the chair, let alone gather her thoughts enough for the Sorting Hat to sort her. Deciding to just go with the Sorting Hat's decision, not make a conscious choice. She would just take life as it came, and not worry.

~Time Skip~

Parvati in fact found it incredibly hard to follow the impromptu motto she had made for herself earlier. She was curled up in a ball on her bed in the Gryffindor common room, Lavender, her new best friend, and, surprisingly, Hermione Granger, who she had previously believed to be a stuck-up know-it-all, but turned out to be very nice.

Tears streamed down Parvati's face as her two dorm-mates comforted her. Her sister was not in the same house as her. Her sister, who she had barely ever been away from, was now sleeping elsewhere, living elsewhere, having lessons elsewhere, even eating without being able to talk to her. She and her sister were now officially separated, her in Gryffindor, Padma in Ravenclaw, and it made Parvati's heart break.

She shook as Lavender's arm wound around her shoulders, tears streaming down her cheeks. Hermione left, promising to come back soon, saying that she had to check something in the library. They waved to her as she left, and she flashed Parvati a small smile, which she returned. The two other girls just stayed in the position, curled up on Parvati's bed, until Hermione returned.

They stayed up that night, talking about everything from charms to make your hair curl, to sweets and muggle music. For the first time that night Paravti was glad that she was in Gryffindor. She had made friends.

It was two in the morning when they finally got to sleep, smiles on our faces. Hermione fell asleep straight away, but Parvati stayed wake, listening to the sounds of the raging storm outside. She started to cry. Usually at home, when she was scared of a storm, she would sneak into her sister's (who was 8 minutes older than her) bed and they would lie there, comforting each other, until the storm was over, or they fell asleep.

Parvati let out a small whimper, and burrowed under the covers. Suddenly, she heard Lavender's voice asking: "Are you ok? Come here," with her arms outstretched. Lavender hugged Parvati, her arms enveloping the shivering girl. They stayed like this, talking quietly, until they fell asleep, arms still around each others shoulders.

Hermione found them like this in the morning, arms around each other, and knew straight away. This is why she was the only one (apart from Seamus and Dean, who were also dating, who they had told beforehand) not surprised when they finally kissed publicly after the Battle of Hogwarts, when Lavender finally woke up in the Hospital Wing after her encounter with  Fenrir Greyback.

This realisation of Hermione's made her loyal to them throughout Hogwarts, and them to her, even though they seemed enemies at times. She valued them greatly as her secret friends, and when Ron kissed Lavender in sixth year, Hermione was not only crying for herself.

She was upset that Ron had kissed Lavender, as she definitely fancied him, however she was mostly crying for Parvati, who had been in love with Lavender for years. This was the reason why Hermione looked disgusted when there were public displays of affection between them, not at Ron but at Lavender, who had betrayed her friend, and only brought misery on Parvati's life. Hermione and Parvati had had lots of late night talks, when Lavender was asleep, and sorrowed chats when the two were snogging. Lavender awoke one night to hear Parvati confessing her feelings for her best friend, and from then on, she did all she could to break up with Ron, but nothing worked.

When Ron finally broke up with her, Lavender was actually relieved, but could not muster the courage to tell the other girl about her feelings. When they finally started dating in secret, Hermione was overjoyed, and congratulated the immensely.

Despite what it seemed to Harry and Ron, the three Gryffindor girls were steadfast friends throughout Hogwarts, despite their occasional arguments, and Harry as greatly surprised when one day her saw them on the Marauders' Map, sitting in a circle in the girls' dormitory, engaged in deep conversation, though he decided not to press them about it.

Thank for reading this guys, and sorry for my terrible writing. All characters and places and stuff belong to J.K.Rowling. Thanks,
