Since the beginning of time, there has been this thing called mana energy. It's a bit like the Force, in a sense, because it's in every living thing (actually, I'm not really sure how the Force works but this is my best guess) but its use isn't limited to people who are 'sensitive' to it. Every organism on Earth had manna energy in it. It's stored in their Cores which are, well, the centre of their being, you could say. The strength of the energy in the core, however, varied in each individual. It was very common to have a medium sized Core that held an average amount of magic, although there were people with oversized Cores or undersized Cores.

Up until two centuries ago, things were going well for all the magical beings appeared. And then...something happened.

The Beasts appeared.

Most Beasts held no magic power themselves. There were some exceptions, although they were incredibly rare. They made up for what they lacked in magical strength with significant numbers and power.

They came in all shapes and sizes; some were the size of mountains (they generally tended to roam around alone) and some were the size of mice (these tended to travel in packs of over three to four hundred). No matter their size, there was no doubt that they were a formidable foe. For the better part of the first century—at the time when they first came in contact with the human race—they dominated Earth. Some countries were worse off than others. It got so bad in America that, pretty soon, Wyoming was the only state to exist.

Eventually, though, humanity stood to face against their horrendous calamity. A group of Wyomingites with extraordinary magic ability banded together to face off against the monsters in their country. Their battles led to the entire west coast free of monsters in just thirty-three years—they had gained more followers and with that gathered support, they were able to fight an even battle. Then, three Hunters came together and fought on the other side of the country: Hunter Levi, Hunter Maddox, and Hunter Briggs. Levi was the fastest man alive and, boosted with magic, could run to speeds up to 769 miles per hour ( a whole two mph faster than the speed of sound). Maddox was an assassin who never missed her mark—even from 279 miles away. Briggs was the strongest of the group—he was known for his best party trick: being able to crush three diamonds in one hand.

Those three Hunters' names will never fade into history but the world has come a long way. In the time after the Great Trio, as they are so often referred to, that small band of brave heroes grew in something more powerful and organized. They formed the Sanctum of Hunters which was one big group that divided into smaller Guilds of varying sizes which then divided into smaller groups called Clans which were made up of individual teams of up to ten people. It sounds complicated but it was better than what the Hunters were in the beginning: a bunch of ragtag groups with hardly any cooperation whatsoever.

The Sanctum started in America, but it eventually spread to other parts of the North American continents and gradually overseas. Humanity in all corners of the Earth would rise up against the Beasts and reclaim what was theirs once and for all.
