Carls POV
I hate living on the farm. Its boring and I can't do anything. The only good thing is Alexis. She is so kind and caring and pretty. I can't believe her and Beth would do that though. I was so scared that I would lose my only friend in this screwed up world."Carl? How are you holding up?" My dad asks. I just shrug and reply with an 'I'm fine' ever since he found us at the little camp, him and mom have been weird. Like something happened. I just don't know what. Anyway, I head over to the van. I want to start learning how to use a gun. I'm ready. I go inside the camper, telling Dale that I'm getting a comic book, and instead grab a gun. I put it between the waist band on my pants and my skin. I pull my shirt down over it and walk out.
"I thought you were getting a comic?" Dale speaks. I forgot about him!
"Oh, I was but I finished all of them already. I'll ask Glenn if he can pick some up on his next run into town." I cover myself.
"Ask me what?" Glenn says, walking up with a basket full of fruit and jerky.
"If you could pick me up a few new comic books on your next run." I reply. He nods his head, handing me a peach. I take it and thank him. Once I have the chance, I walk off, in the direction of the house. I'm about half-way there when Shane stops me.
"Hey buddy. What are ya doing?" I shrug and look at him.
"I don't know. I'm just bored." I say. It's not a lie, I am bored.
"Let me see what you've got there, Carl." He says when I try walking away. I groan and pull up my shirt, revealing the gun. He looks down, disapointment and anger written on his face. He takes the gun and tells me to sit down and not move. I do as told and he walks off, probaby in search of my mom and dad. Minutes later he returns with them. I can tell by their faces that mom and dad have been arguing.
"Carl what were you doing with that gun?" My dad asks, standing tall in front of me. I decide to tell him the truth.
"I want to learn how to use a gun. I want to be able to protect myself." Mom shakes her head.
"No. I won't have my boy walking around carrying a gun. I won't allow it." I look at her, sadness etched into my face.
"Come on mom! I know how to use it! And I know it's not a toy! Shane can teach me! He's done it before." I say, turning towards Shane. He looks at mom and nods.
"I've taught kids younger than Carl, Lori. I can teach him if you and Rick are ok with it?" Mom looks at my and nods, defeated. She walks over to me and grabs my face.
"You listen to everything Shane tells you, you hear me? Be safe." I nod and follow Shane and Dad to the cars.
