Previous Chapter: The Party
-Logan... let's stay here, I say and look around.
He nods and we get to the food bar.
-So... you've sold many other cars to Brent?
-Yes. Pretty much all his collection is made of cars I've given him.
-How are you able to buy and sell so many cars?
-I have my ways.
-You love cars, don't you?
-Every car's got a story, just like people.
-Then what's your story?
-You sure you want to ask that? It's not a happy one.
-Of course I am. Like, where are you from?
-Nowhere. Everywhere. Depends how you look at it.
-Are you trying to be mysterious?, I ask and laugh.
-Usually. Keeps me safe. Honestly, I've spent my whole life on the road. I've loved all over. Nowhere I'd ever take a nice girl like you.
-Wh--But before I say anything, he looks away and frowns.
-What's wrong?, I ask confused.
-Listen... Sirens, he says and he looks at me again with a serious expression.I strain to listen. Sure enough I can hear police sirens coming closer...
-Oh crap! The cops! They're busting the party!, Tim-Josh shouts panicked.
-They wouldn't dare!, Brent exclames surprised and angry at the same time. My dad golfs with the mayor!Around me, everyone starts screaming, running in different directions in complete chaos.
I look around for my friends.
-Riya?! Darious?! Where'd they go? My first time going out, and I'm about to get arrested? My dad is going to kill me!
-I won't let that happen. Come on. I'll get you out of here.I start for the front door with everyone else, but Logan holds me back.
-That's where the cops will corner everyone! This way, and stay close!
Logan leads me against the flow of people, but I start to fall behind!
Instantly, I grab Logan's hand, my fingers entwining with his.-Don't let go, Elise.
-I won't!Logan slams open a side door.
-My car's just through here.
We dash across the mansion's backyard and run into the property's imposing wrought-iron fence.
-There's no way out! We're trapped!
Logan grabs me and easily lifts me, vaulting me up over the fence!
-Whoa!, I say clearly not expecting that to happen.
He then leaps up and grabs the top trail, muscles rippling as he lifts himself up and over, landing easily next to me.
-We're almost there. Stay low!, he says calmly.
From a distance, I see a pair of police cruisers skid to a stop outside the front entrance, cornering my classmates as they flee!
-You there! Stop!, I hear a cop saying.
-Do you even know who I am?!, Brent shouts angrily. Then a police officer notices us.
-Hey! Those two are getting away out back! Go cut 'em off!
Me and Logan steal past the hedges until I spot Logan's car.
He hurdles through the driver's side window and behind the wheel as I clamber into the passenger seat.-Buckle up, he tells me.
Logan throws the stick into gear and hits the gas.
The car rockets forward, blasting onto the road just before a squad car can block our escape!
