~ Lauren ~
My studs dug into the muddy ground, as my hair, straight as it was, fluttered through the wind. We were versing the USA state team championships. It was 0-2 our way and i was thrilled with excitement. The ball rolled towards my feet and i kicked it as hard as possible. The goalie, jumped as high she could but it wasn't enough. GOAL! the time bell rang and we all screamed in joy. As many people shook hands i walked away to the benches were i would earn my trophy.
"Lauren, why don't you ever shake hands with anyone?" Jess was a good friend but sometimes she never understood me.
"i don't see the point, we versed them and won, why should we make them feel better about a loss?" i just didn't think it was reasonable. We all sat round in a circle with our coach standing in the middle. I wrapped my tongue around a yellow jelly snake and enjoyed the flavour as it ran down my throat.
"Gilrs great season, we have done so well and i am so proud of you!" that's not really the truth, coaches often lie to make you feel better.
"Well actually we did shit! we lost pretty much the whole first half of the season, and then caught up in the second half and out of complete luck, won the finals. So no we didn't do great but we did get better. Don't lie its rude" My mum and sister came running over to me. My mum grabbed my arm and pulled me up off the ground.
"Lauren, we are not going home until you apologize to your coach!" My mum and sister stood with their arms crossed glaring at me
"And Allison, who are you to stand there looking all grown up, you're younger than me, so act like it!" I saw fury grow in my mums eyes, but i honestly couldn't care any less. A girl and her mother from the opposite team came walking towards our team. The girl was crying and her mum was comforting her. As they reached our circle, coach Marty walked up to them.
"And how can i help you?" the mum looked pissed, as though someone had done something to her daughter.
"One of the girls from your team, insulted my daughter. She said 'You're a short thing, aren't you' then my daughter didn't say anything and then the girl from your team said 'Ok don't say anything a short little bitch like you doesn't get friends that simply'". My mother turned to me with the biggest frown on her face.
"Lauren come here right now" my coach turned to me and gestured for me to walk over to him.
"I'm sorry that i was such a bitch, but i can't help who i am blah blah blah" I said to the girl and then went to walk away before she turned to me and said.
'You are a slut, and you have a shit personality!" i don't deal with anger too well. I turned to face her and my arm swung and my first hit her face, her head turned and she fell to the ground.
"LAUREN!" My mum grabbed my arms and pulled me back.
"get your daughter under control!" the girls mum said as my mum pulled me away from the scene. My mum got her hand and waked it across one of my cheeks. She gave me the keys to our house.
"You can walk home. Allison and i are going shopping. Your grounded by the way" I turned my back on my mum and made my way the pathway where i would walk home from the field.
As my boots made a funny sound against the concrete, my mind flew towards the game i just won. Maybe i was the reason we won. As i was sent back in time a car pulled up next to me and it drew me back to reality. The window swung down and behind it was Cody. He had curly black hair that was short-ish and his eyes were hazel brown. he often stalked me but i can't say i hate him, and he certainly doesn't hate me. he once gave me a litter saying i love you on the front and then when i opened it, it sung a song saying:
I love you, i love please understand that i love you!
And it was repeated, over and over again. he smiled at me. as he grew older he got cuter, but he was extremely annoying.
"hey Lauren, wanna lift home?" I turned to him with an angry expression.
"Why do you do this? I mean, did i call you. No. Do i like you? No!" i crossed my arms and glared inside the vehicle.
"I just asked if you wanted a lift, not to marry me" I smiled and sighed. I made my way to his car and opened the passenger door. I sat down and Lent back to shut my eyes. "what did you do this time?' even though i had never had a proper conversation with Cody, he knew i was rebellious but we still never had a proper conversation.
"I punched a girl" i smiled and looked down at the mat beneath my feet. The cars engine started and Cody began to drive the car towards my house. "Wait no! turn around. I don't wanna go home. Mum will just spaz at me and school what kill me. Do you know the old hut, near our school?"
"yeah of coarse i do. I shall take you there right now!" At the upcoming roundabout, Cody did a 360 turn and we drive back towards the school, where an old hut was. I use to go there when i was much smaller, my mum actually showed me it for the first time. It was the preschool but it grew old and they made a new one. the sky grew dark over the roof of the car, and the stars began to shine their way in front of us.
'i love starlight" i smiled as i looked up at the stars.
"Why?"
"It reminds me of the past, i wish i could go back. Too many regrets" Cody smiled at me and then looked at an old building ahead.
"Here we are. I looked down at the long grass that grew before the hut. I jumped out of the car and ran towards a small light beam that grew in the centre of the grassy field. I dived into the grass and lay on my back so my eyes were locked on the stars. Cody did the same and lay next to me. "you're weird"
"I'm weird, then what are you?" I smiled and we both laughed. I shut my eyes and before i knew it my mind grew far away and ran through fantasy, and things that i knew i would never have.
