It was the end. They both knew it but neither wanted to be the one to say it. The Guardian within the confines of their ship just above Earth stared at their ghost resting in their hands. The normally white ghost had its shell decimated and covered in red. No other word could really describe it in the guardians mind the mess that was once called Little light.
"Guardian... let me... heal you." The ghost said in between what sounded like ragged breaths. The Guardian leaned back with a small smile thankful towards his friend since his resurrection.
"Not this time. I don't think it'll be enough this time." The words spoken meant little when the two had been around each other for lifetimes. The unspoken words between them that only another guardians and their ghosts could quite understand. The two have been inseparable since the beginning. They would be inseparable till the end.
For several minutes the two sat in a comfortable silence the two had mastered long ago. The only sound being the labored breathing of the two.
"Can you... sing that song. Just one time." The Ghost said just loud enough for the Guardian to hear. The Guardian gave a pained grunt sitting back up to comfort the ghost. The song was one the Guardian was used to singing in stressful times. Minutes before the raids they took against the strongest the darkness had, when the light had been taken from them as they escaped from the Last City, and the most recent was when the long time friend and mentor of the two Cayde-6 was killed.
"This Little Light Of Mine, I'm gonna let it shine," The guardians voice sang out. It was not the most in time but the tune was enough for the ghost to begin to rest, "This Little Light Of Mine, I'm gonna let it shine, This Little Light Of Mine, Yes, I'm gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine." The ghost slowly began to drift. The light within what everyone called it's eyes slowly dimming.
"The light that shines is the light of love, Lights the darkness from above. It shines on you and it shines on me, and it shows what the light of love can do. I'm gonna shine my light both far and near, I'm gonna shine mine light bright and clear, where there's a dark corner in this land. I'm gonna let my little light shine." The ghost soon powered off. The light within it gone as it soon died. The guardians tears soon began after as they landed on the ghost and the guardians own wounds.
"This Little Light Of Mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This Little Light Of Mine, I'm gonna let it shine, This Little Light Of Mine, Yes, I'm gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine." As the guardian finished what they knew of the song they too started to drift off. The pairs destiny had been fulfilled and it was now time for others to lead on against the darkness.
"Goodbye my Little Light. It was a trip and," the Guardian tripped on their words as they finally began their final rest, "I wouldn't have changed anything for the world."
