PART ONE

"e!" i shouted out to my twin brother from the kitchen, "i thought i told you to go grocery shopping!"

"sorry, man, i'm playing fortnite and i can't hear you!" he shouted back to me, obnoxiously. i rolled my eyes and scoffed, slamming the empty fridge door closed.

we had literally nothing essential in the fridge - eggs, milk, orange juice, fruit. nothing. i grabbed my keys and phone from the kitchen counter and put them both in my back jeans pocket.

after i got everything i need from the store, i walked down the sidewalk to mine and ethan's house as it was only a 5 minute walk to the store.

i was looking both ways, about to cross the street, when something caught the corner of my eye. confused, i walked towards it along the sidewalk. no, that isn't what i think it is—

i gasped to myself, picking the object from off the floor. holy shit, it's someone's phone. i held an iphone X in my left hand and it surprisingly still had some power on. the lock screen was a picture of a black cat, snuggled up in a white, fluffy blanket.

a man was a few feet in front of me so i ran up to him. maybe it was him who dropped his phone.

"excuse me, sir!" i called out to him. the man turned around, eyebrows furrowed.
"did you drop your phone? i found it on the ground over there."

i pointed over to where i found the phone lying on the ground. the man pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket.

"no, my phone's here. i'll have it, though," he joked and i laughed.
"oh, well thanks for your help."
"hope you find whoever it is," he said, smiling.
"thanks," i replied and the man walked off.

shit. i have someone's phone. what do i do?
