Delicate beams of sunlight faded into the bold night. Sofia gently awoke, aware of the darkness she found comfort in. we drove in silence, peaceful and familiar, as I continued south to where I knew a friend would assist us. Now under the cover of night the bare lands truly seemed empty. The bright headlights did little to break the inky ebony that enclosed us. That was until I hit a tree.
We couldn't have been going faster than 20 miles per hour the small collision had little effect on us ourselves; what truelt shocked us was the tree. There is was bountiful and glowing with life, its branches rich with green, small rain droplets hung onto the minuscule leaves and a birds nest lay resting in the boughs. And behind that tree... hundreds more! Each of them strong and exerting nature. It was impossible. Yet here it was standing tall despite my smashed headlight that failed to show me this wonder.
My eyes met Sofia's as a grin blossomed on my lips, mirroring hers. Like excited children on Christmas, we lept out of the car. We could no longer drive so the rest of our journey would be completed on foot. Carelessly, I opened the boot of my car and pulled out our emergency bags. As a precaution we kept these bags in both our cars in case of a situation like this. I hiked the loaded backpack onto my shoulders and entered the forest, my hand wrapped safely around Sofia's.
Sofia's ability to see in the dark meant that I didn't have to waste my flashlight battery as she led the way. The soft smell of pine needles soothed my itching nerves as we moved deeper and deeper into the forest. Although the darkness blinded my normal sight, I was on watch for anyone's spirit energy. The twigs beneath my boots snapped like bones, clashing with the elegant silence that surrounded us. Just in front of me Sofia came to a stop.
"There's an empty cabin up ahead, in a clearing." Her voice was barely audible. I peeked over her shoulder trying to at least view the outline of the cabin but my weak eyes failed me. This time our footsteps were lighter until I stopped.
"It's not empty." I hesitated attempting to assess what I was seeing.
"There's a mutant, a male judging from his silhouette but his energy's kinda fuzzy like his behind a think wall or something." My anxious whispers slipped from my mouth as I felt Sofia's hand slip from my palm and her body heat fade.
"I'm going to scout the inside, stay hidden" AS she spoke her voice faded, signalling her disappearance. A creeping feeing of dread grasped my soul as I was left alone in the night with arctic gusts ripping through my coat. Patiently, I watched as Sofia's dark grey aura shifted closer and closer to the males scarlet energy. Just as they seemed to meet two more males materialised. One aura was a deep midnight tainted with mystery, constantly recasting. The other was a blue so light and cold that I could feel it from my position in a bush.
Horror consumed every cell of my being as Sofia's energy completely vanished with the midnight energy. Fear clogged my throat as I realised that the midnight man had teleported my friend to god knows where! Still the other twos' energy's remained most likely waiting for that teleporting barstard to return. I didn't have long to act.
My ambition fuelled my cat like strides into the unknown black. Finally I was able to make out the Cabin or in this case an underwhelming shack. With squinting eyes I could make out a doorway and two broken windows. Silently I crouched by the door. Now closer, I could read the men's energy in detail that was clearly displayed for me. The tallest power was related to heat, most likely fire or something close to that and considering the intensity, he was powerful. The seconds was the complete opposite to his companions. The blue suggested the use of water in some way but judging from the freezing waves I received, ice was more probable.
It was two against one and I had the element of surprise. Both seemed to manifest their energy in a physical form meaning an attack would not go well on my part. It seemed my best and only option would be to drain one of their powers and hold them hostage. Now who to choose.
The fire man's aura seemed far more chaotic compared to the others as well as being in a larger supply. Ice man appeared to have already used his power recently making him the perfect candidate.
And thus my plan was finished.
After inhaling deeply, I reached for my own lilac energy and eased it out of my open palm. A thick tendril seeped from my hands and like a snake, slithered towards my victim. His energy flowed from his body and into my own, it iciness chilling my core. It was barely a minute before he noticed.
"Chanyeol do you feel that?" his voice was higher than I expected as he spoke to his friend.
"What do you mean I can't feel anything. Are you feeling alright?" Just as the question entered the air. a clatter and a grunt resonated.
"Minseok!" Chanyeol called out deeply for his comrade who must've fallen. The raw concern in his tone sparked a flame of guilt in my chest but the reminder of Sofia smothered it out. I stepped casually into the unlit room, my presence catching the attention of Chanyeol, the only conscious person there. Suddenly a large ball of flame erupted, illuminated the damp shack and revealing a pair of alert eyes on an extremely handsome man.
"Who are you and what did you do to Minseok you fucking rat?!" His low baritone voice growled out, anger apparent in his glare.
"Don't worry too much he'll be fine in a day or two... if he's lucky." I covered my fear with a conniving smirk as I knelt down beside Minseok's unconscious body. His head rolled to the side as I grabbed his jaw with gentle hands, studying his soft fairy features.
"Get your fucking dirty hands off of him." I scoffed at his words as I studied my chipped blood red nail polish despite the flicker of fear I felt when our eyes met.
"You see Chanyeol," I rolled his name off my tongue.
"It appears that one of your friends had rather rudely kidnapped someone dear to me. So I suggest if you want Minseok here to survive this encounter you give her back." As I spoke I stood up from my crouch, clenching my jaw in an attempt to appear intimidating.
Then just slightly too late I noticed the midnight blue in my peripheral vision and I sharp pain to my neck was the last thing I remembered before succumbing to unconsciousness.
