Blackout

It was a stormy night and I was snuggled up with a book in the townhouse. I was alone since Elain decided to go spend the night with Lucien, and Rhys was out at a meeting. I didn't mind being alone, even sometimes it's quite relaxing, but tonight it is just the howling wind that sent chills down my spine.

Flipping another page of my book my eyes flickered to the storm outside. I stared out the window, frowning at the sight.

When will you be home?  I sent the question through the bond getting a reply almost instantly.

Soon. Is everything alright Darling?

It's just stormy and I'm worried about a blackout.

I'll be home as soon as I can. Hang tight.

Thank you.

Looking back down at my page, I tried to focus on the words in front of me, but instead more fear ran through my blood as the light flickered. I stared up at them, praying to any gods I knew for them to not go out. My wishes were not answered.

All of Velaris went dark, the only light source was the stars above.

Panic surged in my throat, and a shot up, my book hitting the floor with a loud bang. I squinted in the dark desperately searching for a candle. I saw none.

Darling. Rhys' voice filled my mind, soothing my blood, as he brushed against my mind. Breathe.

It all went dark. I answered, my heart racing in my chest.

You need to breathe Feyre. I'm trying to wrap up now.

Hurry... Please, please, hurry...

I will. Just stay where you are.

My head whipped around the darkness. I grasped my hands together, trying to calm the panic to no avail. I couldn't calm down. Bile rose in my throat, as the panic attack started, tears rolling down my cheeks. I fell to my knees trying to catch my breath, searching for anything to focus on.

Where are you? Rhys' voice entered my mind, his voice sounding slightly panicked.

I didn't have the strength to answer. I let out a choaking noise instead, trying to breathe. He found me in seconds.

A light flickered as Rhys placed the candle beside me, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me to him. He lovingly ran a soothing hand over my back in soothing circles, whispering to me that I was okay and that he was here with me.

"It's okay my darling." He whispered into my hair, planting a feather like kiss there as well, as I started to catch my breath again. "I'm sorry I took so long."

I shook my head, looking up into his warm face, at the concern written there. He smiled gently at me, brushing my tears away with his thumb, kissing my temple once. Twice.

"Thank you." I breathed, leaning into him.

"Anytime darling." He whispered to me, holding me close.

The power stayed out the whole night. Even so, no other panic attack struck. Instead, Rhys lit all the candles in the house not letting me out of his sight once.

"Feeling better?" He asked me after we snuggled up on the couch once more wrapped in a blanket, and me lying on his shoulder.

I smiled up at him. "Much."

His smile was soft as he claimed my lips, cupping my face with his palm.

"Never again." He promised. "Next time there is a storm warning, no matter when it is, or where I am, I will come to you straight away and never leave your side."

"I'll hold you to it." Is all I said to him, as a peaceful sleep over took me.
