"Wake up bean head ,we're here ",I opened my eyes seeing that I had closed "Percy Jackson :The Lightning Thief " on my finger.I took a big chug of my Dr.Pepper and looked at the new scenery.A big sign covered the passenger side view ,"Welcome to Columbus!".The windshield was covered with the view of tall buildings and a sunset lowering behind. We took the highway off to the more urban part of the town and I started to organize my things.
"Shucks, were low on gas, do want something from the gas station."Sure", I smiled, might as well get to know someone in this town even if it was a employee at a local gas station. I got out, closed the door to the baby blue Honda, and walked across the parking lot. There was a Juul sign on the window as well as a couple of cigarette posters with tiny etched writing on them,'4.95". I opened the door to a bell ring and headed to what looked like the candy isle but was met instead by an older boy.His name tag was pinned to a blue apron that could've been a pair of overalls if it had been even a foot longer .He caught my stare and gave me an annoyed look then turned around to a woman in a similar blue apron ,"Harvey, you don't need to go to a party and of all things a high school party!".
"But I'm in high school!, I picked up Jamal's shift last week , its not my fault his Toad is sick!".The woman saw me and pulled back a white strand of hair from her face,"Finding everything okay?", she asked sincerely.I nodded and walked to the slushy section.
Red, white, and blue; how American I laughed and grabbed a slushy cup with Uncle Sam on it. I lowered my cup under what I suppose might have been cherry and raspberry and pineapple followed. I spotted my mom admiring the vegan ice cream in her hand and followed her to the cashier. Harvey, the guy who was covering for Jamal was there and asked if we found everything all right. We said yes, which was odd because i didn't know of any gas stations who sold vegan ice cream. It wasn't until we got back to the car that I saw the gas stations full sign that read: Petro's Vegan Mart.
